Incredible recordings, January 4, 2011

The voice (Billie's) has deteriorated some at this point; yet, like Maria Callas towards the end, the emotions and sentiment own the music and pleasantly surprise. Not bitter as witnessed on (song) Don't Explain with Lester Young nor as sad and overtly pathetic as witnessed on (album) Lady in Satin. Ben Webster spins his magic and Lady Day uses her instrument equally well. If you love Ben Webster and are a fan of Billie Holiday..this album (CD) will be a treat. Seems very current and probably an album (CD) you'll listen to more often than her earlier recordings. Smooth transition from song to song; all great.. Very easy listening...
