This inexpensive but charming collection, part of a series "for lovers", provides listeners with soulful yet subtantial jazz. Webster's tenor sax caresses listeners looking for the kind of music to play on quiet evenings when the fog has rolled in, when taking that drive along a two lane road one fall afternoon, he promises the sound that comforts without lulling one into sleep.

Beginning jazz listeners will find this collection easy to enjoy without having to wade through difficult solos or dissonant pieces best left to the connoisseur.

Pieces like: "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" and "Someone to Watch Over Me" may remind folks of Woody Allen films and his attendant soundtracks but much of what makes Webster glorious to listen to is his lush style that reflects a full sound that satisfies over and over again.

Whether you play this as background music to a cocktail party or you dance to it with a carefully chosen partner, Ben Webster for Lovers remains as tasteful as any meaningful conversation after hours.

Simply put, you'll have a tough time finding a sweeter sax, better quality production and choice tunes on one biscuit. Don't think twice - just get it.

Webster's music is spellbindingly alive; stirring every human emotion imagainable. The moods may vary from one song to another, but ever present is the depth of feeling. Listeners unconsciously transend self and become part of the music.

Now THIS is what I think Jazz is all about...virtuosity being the means to an end, NOT the end itself ... Beautiful!!!!!

I love this album. The sound is gorgeous, and the gentle variations on the melodies are inspired.

A very smooth and soft sound, the Ben Webster for Lovers is an excellent assortment of music to sit by the fire and listen to. I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves the old standards.

Ben Webster for LoversThe music on the CD is great. Nice instrumental saxaphone jazz in the lower keys. Too bad the CD wasn't packaged better though. The CD case was cracked and most of the center fingers were broken.
