This BenQ plasma TV, which employs a reed-thin 42-inch flat-panel display, combines the best of both worlds. The TV's 3D digital comb filter technology far outshines old-style color mingling to produce richly accurate images with sharp outlines, while its progressive scan converts interlaced 480i images into flicker-free 480p images. The TV also offers complete HD compatibility, connecting to an HD receiver to broadcast 1080i signals in addition to 720p and 480p formats, exposing users to the absolute finest images available for television viewing.

Other video enhancements include white balancing correction, which eliminates the traditional greenish tinge of plasma displays to offer more accurate colors, and gray level correction, which corrects color inconsistencies found in dark areas of the picture. The 46W1 even expands the traditional 24-frames-per-second format of movies into the broadcast format of a conventional TV using 3:2 pulldown processing. This gives even subtle actions in a movie greater clarity and realism. Sports fans will delight in the two-tuner picture-in-picture, which lets them watch two programs simultaneously. The TV also includes a freeze function, the ability to zoom in and out while watching a broadcast, and a wide 160-degree viewing angle.

An HD-ready TV is nothing, however, if it doesn't also support good audio, and the 46W1 fits the bill here as well. The TV includes two built-in 2-watt speakers, but it also attaches conveniently to two separately sold external 10-watt speakers, giving viewers a wealth of audio options. The TV supports SRS surround sound and True Bass, both of which are complemented by the Focus treble. To enjoy the maximum impact of DVD movies and TV shows, connect the unit to a distinct surround sound system for a rich, true-to-life sound. In addition to connecting to an HD receiver, the TV also hooks up to other devices through the component, S-video, and composite inputs, in addition to the composite output and two audio outputs.

This is the second plasma I have owned. Do not buy this plasma. it is a great size. But the picture quality from dvd and digital cable was really poor black looks poor --artifacting The hum from this plasma is so loud that it can be heared over even med volume. It is the worst plasma i have seen to date.
