Manufactured to exacting standards, this imported bench plane is a virtual copy of the no-longer-available Record bench plane. Frogs are well machined and adjustable for control of the throat opening, depth adjustment knob is brass. Hardwood handle and knob have a hand rubbed finish. The iron is high carbon steel and lever caps are chrome plated for added protection. . The #4 has a 2" wide iron and 10" length. Soles are guaranteed flat to within 0.003". One of the handiest tools in the shop, a block plane is commonly used to break sharp edges, trim and fit joints and clean up end cuts. Groz planes feature heavy cast iron bodies, accurately ground surfaces, lateral adjustment levers, and black enamel finish. The Low Angle Plane has a 1-3/8" iron set at 12 degree and an adjustable throat. Body length is 7". Honing required before use.

These planes are a complete waist of time. When the items arrived I began taking the smoothing plane apart, as I was wiping the shipping grease off I noticed the tote (rear handle)was not fully seated and pretty loose. I took the top screw off and could not for the life of me get the tote off of the plane. When I put the top screw back on, after giving up getting the tote off, it would not tighten enough and was still not seated right and loose, so that was strike #1. Everything else on the smoother looked ok though.
The block plane was a mess, the mouth would not adjust all the way, strike #2. When I took the sliding sole off I noticed that at the end of the piece, that is part of the mouth, when it was cast it was messed up and it was very shallow. If I would have tried to smoothed the sole that part would have fallen apart, strike #3.
I put everything back together, packed it up and sent it back. This product is very poorly made and I am sorry I wasted my time, just glad I got my money back. I did find an antique plane and with all the work I am putting in it, it will out perform this one hands down.
