First, this is not a utility knife. It is not a fishing knife, hunting knife, or kitchen knife, there are 1000's of other knives on the market I recommend for those purposes. This knife is designed for one purpose only - last ditch, emergency self preservation. And it is perfect for it. It is small, light, concealable and very effective for its designed purpose...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull
I eagerly looked forward to receiving this knife but was quite disappointed with it and sent it back. The blade was not sharp the way a quality, brand-new knife should be. It was also very difficult to unsheath it the first time, but after that, it was fine. The hole in the knife corresponds to a nub in the sheath that keeps it secure. I guess if you're good at...

First, this is not a utility knife. It is not a fishing knife, hunting knife, or kitchen knife, there are 1000's of other knives on the market I recommend for those purposes. This knife is designed for one purpose only - last ditch, emergency self preservation. And it is perfect for it. It is small, light, concealable and very effective for its designed purpose.
Being a tactical operator, I am always on the market for gear. I have tried many knives on my kit, and almost all come up as fails in the training room. I am in law enforcement not the military, so I can't walk around with a monstrous fixed blade Bowie, machete, or tomahawk on my gear - the public and my management don't like to see that. And any operator who has practiced with a folder in the mat room, knows that when you get put in a choke, you have 4-6 seconds before you are unconscious - and with the loss of fine motor skills due to adrenaline and lack of oxygen to your brain - drawing, opening, and attacking with a folder is out of the question - unless its got some type of spring loaded or draw-activated mechanism.
I have this blade woven in the molle on my chest rig at a 45 degree downward draw with my off hand. There has only been one situation in the training room where I was not able to get to either this knife with my off hand, or my primary weapon on my drop down holster with my strong hand. And my opponent was a very accomplished grappler - so I feel pretty safe playing the odds on that one.
In summary, if you are in a position where you do or may get into a life-and-death struggle, and you don't have a weapon accessible from both sides - you need one. And this is a perfect choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Friend In Deed, April 29, 2011
This review is from: Benchmade Design Concealed Backup Knive (Sports)
This little gem is an excellent self-defense tool for when carrying a larger knife is not feasible. This knife can be easily deployed and turn the tables in a hand to hand situation that is out of control. Common sense dictates that a larger knife appears more intimidating and has the ability to ward off someone getting too close (make sure the bad guy doesn't have something similar). That being said, for the money the quality of this knife is very good but not outstanding (no wow factor), the sheaf attaches securely to the blade, and can be configured in various ways. Overall the knife is a good purchase even if it is only for the psychological advantage it provides. Hopefully the double edge will never need to be used, so hide it well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for what it does, January 10, 2011

The CBK was created for military, police and of course civilians as a last ditch resort to save your life if all else fails. In this regard it's stability, design and construction is top notch. Others like cold steel make palm daggers but none are as well made as this one or made in the USA.
Amazon also has the hands down best price I've seen anywhere and I looked high and low so a thumbs up for that.

This knife feels good in the hand. So what if it's tight the first time you pull it out, it's not as if you will never pull it before you would need to use it. And although I haven't tried it, the belt clip does look like you can move it. Just one warning, there is a backwards way to put the knife back, once you figure it out it's not a worry

i received this knife on time and exactly as described. this is a very sharp, reliable, and well made knife. i own cold steel safe makers as well and this knife is a great addition to my collection. this knife goes out of stock quickly and for good reason, its a must own knife! if you are considering buying this knife, dont hesitate, just buy it and love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very unique knife, very high quality, January 30, 2010

I got this knife for my girlfriend and she absolutely loves it. The design is very unique and unlike the cheap knock-offs everywhere this is good quality. My only complaint is that the sheath is a very tight fit. This isn't adjustable and when it first arrived we simply could not get the knife out of the sheath. Eventually we did get it out, but only by 2 people pulling it apart. After that it seemed to loosen up and worked perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars oops I cut my self, April 1, 2011

This knife comes razor sharp. I read the reviews and expected to have to use a little more muscle then it actualy took to get it out of the sheath the first time. My mistake, the knife slid out smartly and sliced my thumb deep enough to need stiches. Fits in the palm of my hand perfect and is a solid design. A very solid prodct all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome...., March 24, 2011
This review is from: Benchmade Design Concealed Backup Knive (Sports)
So good I ordered two. TOO EXPENSIVE for what it is, but if you have to use it the way it's intended, price won't matter, god forbid it actually has to be used. There is another review that says its "dull". This is NOT the case. It is flat ground ( believe I'm using that correctly) and extremely sharp. If I'm not mistaken, the flat ground blade holds up better under use and I know this type of grind is stronger...Feels good in your hand and is very concealable. The clip goes over my 5.11 tactical belt nicely and I rotated the clip so it "wears" horizontal (the handle is facing my right side, as I am right handed). I can draw it very fast this way and it's alot more comfortable wearing it this way if you intend to sit at all. Nice knowing it's there...you never know. As our constitution says "The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"....whether you are ARMED with a gun, or ARMED with this knife, it is your right as a free person to defend yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars great concealed carry knife, July 16, 2010

This review is from: Benchmade Design Concealed Backup Knive (Sports)
I've been through a lot of knives, and I've always been impressed with Benchmade products. So, it was without hesitation that I bought this perfectly concealable punch dagger from Benchmade. I've actually had it for quite some time, but I'm finally deciding to review it now. I read the one negative review on this knife, in which the only complaint was it was not sharp enough. I find that to be quite laughable, as this is not an instrument to be used for cutting rather it is a weapon for stabbing. That's why it's called a "punch dagger," although they don't advertise it as such (but that's exactly what it is, google it). Its design is so that if you are being attacked, you can quickly and easily pull it from your belt with one hand and it will already be in the position for use while you draw. Half a second is all it takes to deploy this weapon. I assure you, it will cut through anything but metal. The blade itself is not dull on the edges at all, so I'm not agreeing with the point made by that review, but sharpness is not as important an issue with knives of this design anyway.

Regardless, I give this product 5 stars on account of the fact that it is perfectly designed for self-defense. Aside from a firearm, it's the best self-defense weapon you can buy. Quick and easy deployment, lethal effectiveness. If you can throw a punch, you can kill a person with this thing (but preferrably you will never have to). At the very least, you'll feel safer with it securely on your belt.

Built solid. Not especially sharp but it's a stabber, not a slasher. The clip on the scabbard is reversible. I like to clip it to my boot.
