A better mousetrap.,
By The Benchmade AFCK is one of these. To begin with, the width of the unit itself is very thin. Perfect for the pocket or waistband. Some designs tend to be over-built. Meaning that, in order to "give the steak some sizzle", many companies make the knife way too thick for practical carry. The blade is a standard design, nothing too extreme, with the added advantage of the thumb hole to assist opening. It takes a very sharp edge and holds the hone as well.Something I cant say about some more expensive knives. I have heavily abused my own AFCK.The knife actually seemed to like it. Sure it looks a little rough now,but it still travels with me and works as well as ever. The handle is a thing of joy. Giving a good grip, and a stable platform while carrying. The belt clip is strong and secure. It is south of the blade hinge, naturally putting the thumbhole in a postion for quick access upon drawing. My only complaint was the screws work loose after a while. But a simple dash of locktite solved that. Overall I see the AFCK as the perfect replacement for the venerable "Buck" style folding knives. These knives were a practical everyday tool, but they were a little too thick and heavy for the amount of work you can get out of them. The AFCK is the all-purpose pocket knife of the 21 century. Not too heavy or bulky, while still being the multi-task workhorse that many of us use daily. For those of you with a tactical/defensive mindset,be advised, this knife was made from the ground up with those very considerations in mind.Although it dosent have all the window dressing of some knives out there, the AFCK is a solid performer. While at the same time appearing no more menacing than any other common folder. The AFCK has a decent weight yet is quite agile. The liner lock is a pair of titanium sleeves. The blade locks very snug and positive, with no play at all.I can easly manipulate the opening and closing without having to shift my grip or fumble around. I own and use several tactical folders, and would have to say that as beat up as my own AFCK is, its still the one folder I perfer to carry.

Benchmade AFCK: Perfected, Then Discontinued,
This review is from: Benchmade Knives AFCK, G-10 Scale, Drop Point, D2 w/BT2, Plain (Misc.)
Although a fine knife when introduced, the original AFCK accrued a few needed updates as time went along. Benchmade faithfully fixed every one of them, and made the AFCK a true 21st-century knife. The only take-away was the replacement of the thumb-friendly circular opening hole with a thumb-unfriendly elliptical one.
Type in "AFCK" in the Benchmade search box today and you get "Not Found". If you can find an AFCK with Axis lock, blade in M2 or D2 steel, and the later, more versatile clothing clip, you will have found a classic. Keep looking!
