Product Description

The Mini Griptilian features textured Handle Scales (which are very strong and very lightweight). Double 410 stainless liners add strength to the knife handle. The blade is 154-CM stainless (plain) with satin finish and ambidextrous round thumb-hole opener. The pocket clip can be reversed for right or left handed people. The AXIS lock system makes the knife easy to open and easy to close (it operates identically for right and left handers). Benchmade is proud to donate a portion of the profits from the sale of this knife to the Oregon Health and Science University Breast Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon to benefit their Breast Health Education Program. This program provides medical students, residents and practicing clinicians with standardized training to enhance their ability to detect palpable breast cancer in its earliest form

This little guy (or gal) is excellent. Great weight, balance, and good steel. Blade was super sharp right out of the box. I purchased this as a gift for my wife since she didn't like using any of my larger knives, and this fits her small hand amazingly well. I liked it so much that I purchased a Benchmade 557 (tanto blade, black handle) for myself.

AXIS lock is excellent, blade is centered, and she is happy. As you know, happy wife, happy life!

Unless you need a blade that’s longer than 2.91 inches, the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian is the best every day carry knife around, and I say that as an owner of not only two Mini-Grips, but also one full-size Benchmade Griptilian, an occasional user of a Benchmade Barrage, a large Swiss Army folder (the One-Hand Trekker), and a nice Boker.

What’s so great about the Mini-Grip? First, it’s small and smooth in my pocket. If I’m wearing jeans, shorts or khakis, it’s clipped to the inside of my right-side pocket. If I’m wearing dress trousers, the knife is all the way in my pocket; its weight pulls on the pocket and doesn’t look or feel good.

I sometimes carry a full-size Griptilian, especially when going out for long walks, when I feel safer having the bigger knife’s 3.45-inch 154CM blade. But really, half an inch difference will make no difference except under special circumstances. There’s nothing that the mini-Grip can’t do during my daily adventures. (When I really want to feel safe outdoors, I carry a fixed-blade Nimravus.)

The 154CM steel on the Mini-Grip is awesome. It’s strong, it’s corrosion-resistant, and it’s easy to sharpen. It holds an edge better than less-expensive steels, like the 440C stainless on my Boker. The 154CM is a little softer than the M390 steel on the Barrage II (model 581), but on the other hand, it’s almost impossible to sharpen the Barrage unless you are very very patient.

Note: If you want different steel, you can build a custom Mini-Grip with D2, N680 or S30V steel at http://custom.benchmade.com/knives. Frankly, I don’t think that’s necessary unless you really want something other than 154CM.

Another plus for the Mini-Grip: The knife is really light weight.

I wanted to get my wife a knife for EDC since she always seems to need one. I knew I wanted to get her something of high quality, which narrowed it down to benchmade and spyderco. I picked the benchmade because on several forums the mini grip seems to be a must have knife. This is a very nice knife. It is the perfect size for her, and once I showed her how to flip it open and close it via the axis lock she was doing it with ease. She loved the knife. Everything about this knife was perfect, save one thing; it was not very sharp. Now, I'm not saying it was dull- I could shave with it out of the box, but it took quite about of effort/pressure. I have recently bought a few Buck 110s recently, which are almost a third in price to this, and also made in USA. They came MUCH sharper than this knife. In a competitive market like this, benchmade should be setting a standard when it comes to things like this, especially at a higher than average price point. If it would have been sharper, this knife would have gotten 5 stars.

All in all, I would buy this knife again in a heartbeat.

I rated the knife as five stars because it is very well made, it isn't hollow ground like many knives in the sub-$100 category, it's made of what I understand is decent general purpose steel, the Axis lock is very strong and even better doesn't require you to put your fingers in front of the cutting surface to close the knife, and it feels very nice overall.

I do have to say that it's a touch on the small side, mid-sized male hands here. We'll see how my ladyfriend likes it when I pass it on.

I bought a couple of these for Christmas gifts, I wanted to give a high quality Made in America product, and was pleased with my Griptillian, so I purchased them through Amazon. I also liked the fact that this knife also supported Breast Cancer Research.

The knives arrived and were a big hit, both young ladies carry them and have found them useful.

If you are looking for a workhorse knife for a woman (young lady) then this should be on your short list to consider.

Very good product. This was for my 18 yr old daughter and she carries it with her all the time and loves it. It feels comfortable in your hand and easy to get blade out and back on. Benchmade is a solid product. I will definitely purchase more.

I love this knife, It is perfect size for me. Not to big and not to small. I use it when I need to feed hay and cut bales. Fits in my pocket good and it's pink!
