5.0 out of 5 stars Knife Comes Back From The Dead - THANKS BENCHMADE!, September 14, 2011
This review is from: Benchmade Pardue Design Mini-Griptillian Combo Edge Knife with BK1 Coated Blade and Black Valox Handle (Sports)
I used to carry a different knife each day in my pocket, but since picking this one up... I only reach for my benchmade. The knife is extremely well made, the fit and finish are wonderful. It's light, easy to carry and use, and safe. The Tanto edge looks funny, but it's great to use if you're scraping stickers off of car windows or otherwise need to cut along a flat surface. I usually prefer a straight edge, but the utility of a serrated edge is very useful.

After about eight months of carry I left this knife on the bumper of my jeep and drove away. I went back an hour later and found it in the middle of the road. It had been run-over numerous times. The fibrox handle was crushed, the lining was torn, the clip was beat up. It was totally unusable. The blade, however, was fine other than a few chips along the edge and some wear on the sides (taking off the black coat). I was crushed. I took this knife and mailed it off to benchmade asking them if there was anything they could do. Two days later, a nice woman from Oregon called and said they could fix up my knife, sharpen it, and add a new handle for under $30 bucks. They even laser etched my initials on the blade! Now my knife is back in my pocket and looks even better with it's battle wounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars An ugly knife, but, December 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Benchmade Pardue Design Mini-Griptillian Combo Edge Knife with BK1 Coated Blade and Black Valox Handle (Sports)
This is one of the "ugliest" knives I've ever owned.

It has a very organic and curved rear section made of hard plastic, with a very hard cornered and somewhat squared off tanto style blade sticking out the front. Combined together it makes for a very odd looking knife when open. A look only a true Benchmade fan can love. However, its ugliness hides a great, useful knife at a reasonable price! The tanto blade shape and size is amazingly efficient, an excellent design. Very sturdy and thick. Capable of much harder use due to its strong tip and thick steel than the other small Benchmade Tantos I've owned and seen.

This knife does not have full length steel liners. This is a downside for hard use most of the time. Its axis lock is also dependent upon small wire springs to lock the blade in place. The axis lock is a great smooth system, very flickable and alot of fun. But some argue its not quite as strong as a liner lock because of those small round wire springs being involved. I have owned an axis lock Benchmade where one of the springs did break, and I've never seen a liner lock break... indicating that perhaps it is a bit weaker. So that can be considered 2 strikes to some... But this is more of an EDC than a tactical knife so that should not be too big of a problem.

Price wise, this is a good deal in the 60 to 70 dollar range, a great EDC working tanto knife for daily hard use. If priced much above that however, you may want to look for something even sturdier and stronger and a bit more tactical, like an Emerson Mini CQC-7 or A100, both EXCELLENT small knives designed for a lifetime of hard use, and available in the 120 dollar range.
