Finally. A consumer-friendly explanation on why and how consumer driven health plans work! This easily read book provides the reader an overall understanding of CDHP's - and that health plans tied to Wellness programs create an even greater incentive toward personal well-being, personal responsibility, better utilization of medical care options and a better understanding of healthcare account structures. CDHP's can and do provide consumers more options and more alternatives for our own health and well being.

I am a health insurance broker and I use the book to educate both employer and employees. In the book, you'll learn that 30% of our healthcare costs are the "unit costs" for services (physicians, lab tests, hospitals, whatever). The 70% balance is how often the services are used. Healthy employees use fewer services which means lower health insurance costs. As the employer begins to assimilate this information and understands that a proactive strategy is what is needed, he or she becomes more open to the ideas and changes I want to present. The book becomes the reference point that remains long after I've left his/her office.

This book did a great job and explaining medical insurance and how one can be a consumer of health care. I believe there was an analagy in the book that referenced purchasing a tv and how we prepare before we purchase the tv by reseraching products, prices, company etc. and yet as a consumer of health care we do not spend any time researching products (i.e. services), prices, company( i.e. hospital, lab, doctor) and this is our own health! This is a must read for anyone in the health care business as it explains how we can assist with the health care crisis.

I wish the writers of this book send it to Washington so they are as aware of how health care needs to be a consumer decision and not a government decision.
