Intriguing Blend Of Mystery And Romance,
By
This review is from: A Bend in the Road (Hardcover)
"A Bend In The Road", by Nicholas Sparks mixes romance and mystery for a highly captivating read. Although a bit predictable, that didn't stop me from wanting to turn the page to see what happened next and to see if my predictions were right.Miles Ryan's life changed course in an instant. He lost his wife in a car accident and three years later, still has trouble coping with this horrible tragedy. He is doing his best to raise his young son, Jonah, and both are feeling the great loss of the wife and mother they loved so dearly. Miles, a sheriff, is obsessed with finding the person who fled the scene and left his wife lying in a ditch. Jonah, neglected by teachers who felt sorry for him, and by his father's obsession with "the case" has his own emotional troubles. When Sarah, Jonah's new teacher comes into the picture and brightens the lives of both father and son, it looks like she will be the one to help them start life anew. Miles seem to be able to put the case behind him and enjoy life. When new evidence emerges though, Miles relives the day his wife was killed and again can not let it go. But is he on the right track, and can another tragedy be prevented before it's too late? The story of love is uplifting. The love of family, a man's love for his wife and son, and new love. It is the love that is the motivating factor that will determine the course of all their lives. The mystery of the hit and run accident gets more suspenseful as the story goes on, and is made all the more intriguing by the fact that the story is told by the driver himself! Every few chapters the author has him inserting his own thoughts of the events, and only a little at a time do we get hints as to who it may be. I found these chapters to be the real page turners. This is the large print edition(BTW - why do the LP books cost so much more), but there are other editions available. Recommended as an enjoyable summer read for both romance and mystery lovers....enjoy...Laurie

Ok, I'm just going to tell you right away that I am a die-hard Nicholas Sparks fan, and I not only read all his books, but, I also have his entire collective works in hard back. But, my pet peeve with his novels is this, (if you're a big Sparks fan as well, you know what I mean):It seems he has the tendancy to kill-off the character you grow most attached-to in his novels; not a lot of "Happily ever after" tales. Now, that being said, (without causing an "ending blower"), I think you're going to love this one. I don't know why the movie rights to this story never sold....I personally think it's better than the latest release, "Nights in Rodanthe", by a long shot. The large print version was much easier to read, of course, but wasn't huge and bulky like some other books can be, and I received the book in a timely manner...about 10 days. No problems with this seller. I recommend the seller, and I definitely recommend this book, in regular or large print.

I live in Alabama, but as a child I would go stay with an aunt In Beaufort, North Carolina, now that I am older I no longer get to go, thats why I started reading his books in the first place, only to fall in love with his writing. I love that ever time I miss my second home I can open up a Nicholas Sparks book, I can read and picture about the places I miss. This book did not fail to make me smile and lets not forget cry. I would 100% recommend and if your ever in Beaufort, North Carolina go eat at El's.
