5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Medieval love by an author who makes the era sing

Because of her lameness, Seana has always been considered a witch to be shunned by her peers. As an adult all she wants out of life is to marry Broc Ceannifionn, the one person when they were children, who wiped away her tears.

Broc is uninterested in Seana, so she turns to his best friend, Scotia's worst rogue, Colin Mac Brodie, for help. As a child, Seana...

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Medieval love by an author who makes the era sing, November 25, 1998

This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)

Because of her lameness, Seana has always been considered a witch to be shunned by her peers. As an adult all she wants out of life is to marry Broc Ceannifionn, the one person when they were children, who wiped away her tears.

Broc is uninterested in Seana, so she turns to his best friend, Scotia's worst rogue, Colin Mac Brodie, for help. As a child, Seana loved Colin, but his taunts broke her heart. Colin does not recognize the beautiful adult Seana, but finds himself in love with her. He cannot fathom why she wants Broc instead of him, but he intends to make her his intended. However, before he can place his own plan into motion, Colin and Seana have an unknown assailant from their past stalking them, one who seeks vengeance and if that includes killing the duo, so be it.

Medieval Scotland seems to come to life in the capable hands of the ultra-talented Tanya Anne Crosby. Her latest novel, ON BENDED KNEE, is a fabulous romance, filled with warm protagonists, a vile villain, and a well-designed story line that will electrify sub-genre fans. The return of old favorites from THE MACKINNIN'S BRIDE and LYON'S GIFT help propels the plot forward while adding to the fun and excitement. As expected, Ms. Crosby scribes another terrific tale of medieval love.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!, September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Crosby's books always leave me smiling, and this one is no exception! I give it four stars and not five, only because the dialect is a little thick in this one. But it's still a great story, with heart warming characters. Ms. Crosby, if you're reading this, give us Broc's story now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved It, January 13, 2004

This is the first book I've read by this author and I intend to read more. The main complaint I have is that there were obvious references to characters from her other books and I had not read those yet so I wasn't sure at times what she was talking about. I didn't care for the Scottish dialect in conversation...towards the end I was tired of deciphering.

But the actual characters and story I got into. I haven't read a romance with humor in awhile and I found it refreshing and laughed out loud several times.

I'll definitely be reading her other books

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, February 12, 1999

This was my first Crosby and I adored it. Buy this book, but first get MacKinnon's Bride and Lyon's Gift. Read all three in a weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed and I cried!, January 27, 1999
This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)
Of all the romance novels I have read it is only the second I have laughed aloud and the first to make me cry. I cannot wait to read the other two previous stories she wrote about the characters I have already met!

1.0 out of 5 stars Meandering story, poorly-developed secondary plots, August 19, 1999

ON BENDED KNEE is almost completely lacking in story. It spends far too much time in the heads of the protagonists as they rehash the same thoughts over and over again: Colin thinking how brave, strong and stubborn Seana is; Seana thinking what a heart breaking rogue Colin is. Yeah, I got it the first time. And while Crosby makes lame attempts to convince the reader that these two people belong together, she drags in a subplot involving characters from THE MACKINNON'S BRIDE that completely lacks in tension and takes time away from Colin and Seana. Another beef: Crosby's horrible Scottish dialogue which lacks continuity and is so overdone as to be virtually unreadable at times. (For a good example of Scottish dialect, read Gabaldon.) Finally, for a romance novel there is surprisingly little sexual tension and the one and only consummated sex scene is interrupted by an out-of-place attempt at humor. If you want to read a decent romance set in medieval times, read anything by Patricia Ryan. Not a single aspect of Crosby's book makes it impossible to set at any other time in history.

3.0 out of 5 stars MAYBE IT'S JUST ME?, April 21, 2000
This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)
I've just finished reading Tanya Anne Cosby's,"ON BENDED KNEE".First of all,i have to say that after my initial reservations,i did fall in love with the characters.Colin Mac Brodie did not pretend to be anything other then he was.Colin was a womans man!Seana(gorgeous name)was such a sweetheart.I just wanted to hug her and tell her that everything would turn out o.k. in the end.At times during the book i did laugh out loud and at times i cried. So why the three stars instead of five? The storyline seemed to be more prominant then the characters! There was not enough tension between the characters.Their relationship was not consumated until the last few pages! There could have been alot more jealousy and misunderstanding thrown in to the story. After reading"PERFECT IN MY SIGHT" and "HAPPILY EVER AFTER",i know for a fact that Tanya is talented.I just think that for all of it's potential,"ON BENDED KNEE" did not deliver all that it could have!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stinks, September 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)
I've enjoyed Crosby's books in the past. I tried to read this one on an airplane, and just couldn't get past the first 50 pages. It was, however, the only book I had with me, so rather than read the in-flight magazine, I tried again after my peanuts. Still, I couldn't get past the bad dialogue and the rather immature characters. Pass on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm not Scottish. I don't understand Scottish accents well., February 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: On Bended Knee (Mass Market Paperback)
As a result, everything sounds total gibberish. I give up deciphering the conversations after page 50. I look at the nice artwork at the back page and sigh , "What a waste!"

Two stars for the story, or what I could make out of it. One star gets deducted for the annoying use of "kok".
