I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! A true story of about a defiant, yet respectful young girl who had to go with her heart and follow the beat of justice that muffled the practical reasoning in her mind--that her parents would whip her behind! I loved the description of the meeting that led to so many young people risking their lives to fight for basic equality and justice in the racially divided south! This is truly a book to pass on to the next generation to read and understand that fighting for one's rights had no age restriction. This is a story of 'real' violation of Civil Rights--the kind that comes with the color of the skin that your soul is wrapped in when you enter this world--the kind that so many of our ancestors fought and died to realize! I just love SavannahBelle--my kinda girl! Can't wait to read more about Savannah as a young adult in her 20's!!!

I truly enjoyed this book. Written in the context of the Civil Rights Movement, this novel makes you feel like you were present during some of the most turbulent times in America. This book is so timely, with this year being the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. Historical fiction is a fabulous genre of literature. I hope Bailey-Bankston has more to offer her readers in the near future!

A wonderful book about the events that occurred in my hometown of Albany, GA. I enjoyed reading it. The author is a classmate from high school; my oldest brother (1946-2009) was one of the students jailed in Camilla, GA, while marching for freedom. He went on to join the Freedom Riders. Although a work of fiction, this work's historical value is priceless for future reference.

Great read
Great read of a young girl's account of civil rights movement. They may not have fully understood why they did what they did it it was heroic. Well written and I could not put it down.would love to read more of this author.
