Review

As a Sotah warrior, Singai is investigating a smuggling operation within which she believes the Dalig are buying banned Earth weapons. She infiltrates their organization but there is a double agent involved, and after a meeting one night she is attacked by three Dalig warriors. Daemon Quinn is a Fortuna Guardian who has been watching and following Singai because he believes her to be the woman his client is searching for. Quinn comes to Singai's aid when she is injured and single-handedly thwarts the Dalig warriors. He takes a DNA sample from her wound and later tests it on his portable lab to compare and confirm that she matches the sample provided by his client. Quinn partially explains his contract to Singai and he tells her that the attack on her may be a result of his investigation, and if it is, she will be attacked again as the other women he investigated were murdered. Quinn must take Singai to his client, and he wants her to go willingly. After he saves her life a second time, she agrees to go with him. Quinn books passage for himself and Singai on the same ship that they believe the Dalig are transporting some illegal weapons. Some threatening incidents happen aboard the ship but they are not sure whose investigation it has to do with. There is only one room available for the two of them and Quinn is sure he won't be able to stand the close contact with Singai as he has desired her from the moment they met. Singai cannot explain her feelings for Quinn, except that she is attracted to him, and those feelings are intensified and reinforced especially after he kisses her several times. Quinn and Singai arrive at their destination and all of their questions are answered by the Empress Narice. The Empress and her only daughter and heir, are dying, and the kingdom is being infiltrated by the Dalig. Narice tells Singai and Quinn the whole truth and she implores Singai to go along with her plan. But someone else has also learned the truth and Singai's life is in danger too They must find out by the weeks end what is causing the illness and save the Empress and her daughter, because only then will Singai be free of the throne and it's responsibilities. Together Singai and Quinn expose the evildoer, but Singai is injected with a deadly poison and Quinn has one hour to find and administer the antidote. Quinn injects Singai with an antidote, but is it the right one? *The main thought that crossed my mind while reading this book was how futuristic some aspects of the story were, like 'symbiotic companions' capable of telepathy, and yet the various modes of transportation seemed almost archaic, like beasts of burden, carriages and ships....where are the spaceships? And in the beginning, several words are defined or explained for the reader. However, I must admit that this is only my third experience with futuristic romance so this may not be unusual to futuristic readers. Other than these points that came to mind, I really liked this one.* Christine Michels has all the essential elements to take Beneath A Crimson Moon to great heights! An intelligent plot with a twist; strong, well developed characters and a romance that is out of sight! Beneath A Crimson Moon is fast paced and extremely well written! Ms. Michels excels! A totally gratifying and imaginative story! Lots of action!Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

3.0 out of 5 stars well, okay..., March 5, 1998

This review is from: Beneath a Crimson Moon (Paperback)
actually the book is more than okay, i guess. i really love the science fiction part, the sword with a housed entity, a flying, homing creature...very creatively illustrated. the only problem is the story line. it's SOOOOO predictable. i know how the book will end way before i got through halfway.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little slow, but enjoyable, December 28, 1999
This review is from: Beneath a Crimson Moon (Paperback)
This book was a little weak in both the plot line and the flow of the story. The whole casting off the second twin and then having to bring her back because the other is dying is kind of a little far fetched if you are to believe the time frame when this story takes place. For a civilization that can travel the stars to still be practicing this type of backwards ritual is just a little too tough to swallow. The second problem is that the story doesn't flow. The book seems to get stuck on the "ocean voyage" of Singai and Quinn. The fact that they seem to "rescue" each other every other page is also a little old. It is kind of like, how many injuries or illnesses can two people get.

The good part about the book is that the sex if very descriptive, if you like that sort of thing. Singai is also a very strong heroine and is able to mostly defend herself and really help out on the voyage. I thought this book was just a fun, mindless read and am glad that I wasn't rushed when I was reading it. It is definately a book that can be picked up and read at almost any place. Don't feel you have to read this all in one sitting or else you might be bored to tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars in the future,a woman finds love and danger with a stranger, February 25, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Beneath a Crimson Moon (Paperback)
BENEATH A CRIMSON MOON Christine Michels Lovespell, Apr 1997, $5.50 Thadonia has allegedly become a hot bed for stolen Earth weapons. Sotah warrior Singai realizes that the smuggling of the illegal weapons has in deed occurred and is determined to learn who is behind the smuggling. The next stop in her investigation is the Kazerian Empire where she is to be escorted by a Fortuna Guardian, Quinn. On the trip to Kazeria, Singai learns that the smuggling is a minor part of a much greater conspiracy. The ancient foes of the Sotah, the Dalig guild, want to retake all they once lost and more by reestablishing their former dominion. They will do anything to succeed, including the destruction of an empire. Singai needs to persuade Quinn to help her avert the potential menace. If the star-crossed (in a literal sense) couple are triumphant, they may find time to explore their growing love for each other. Christine Michels adds her rising star to the highest levels of the celestial sub-genre of science fiction romance with her latest novel, BENEATH A CRIMSON MOON. The warped-speed, action-packed story line will please fans of the science fiction genre, especially with its other-worlds background in this age of the re-release of the STAR WARS trilogy. Romance fans will devour the growing relationship and love between the Sotah female and the Fortuna male. This is a must for fans of future romance. Harriet Klausner
