One of the best female vocalist/guitarists I've heard!,
This review is from: Beneath the Devil Moon (Audio CD)
Recently, I was fortunate enough to see Michelle Malone open for the Indigo Girls at the University of Connecticut. I have never heard a woman with such soul and passion in her voice. I immediately purchased her newest CD, Home Grown, but realized that a lot of the other songs that had caught my attention were not actually on this particular CD. They were on Beneath The Devil Moon. I ordered this CD from Amazon, and received it in the mail yesterday. Believe me when I tell you that it has not once left my stereo. It has been on repeat for over 24 hours. This is my new favorite CD. My favorite songs are the emotional "The Edge" (slow and soulful) and the passionate "My Green Thumb"--both songs that she played at the show. If you ever get the chance to see her in concert, definitely do it. And in the meantime, check out this CD.

Absolutely breathtaking...,

Without doubt, Michelle Malone is one of the best singer/songwriters I've come across in a long time. Her lyrics are honest and heartfelt, her voice worthy of rock-stardom...and it dosn't hurt that she plays one sweet guitar. From the angsty Grace to the heartwrenchingly beautiful Dimming Soul, this album is a gem from beginning to end.

Her best work yet...,

I've listened to Michelle Malone's music for about ten years and I've seen her perform more times than I can remember. Ms. Malone is a talented songwriter and has an amazing stage presence that simply must be witnessed to be believed. There is a reason that she has been voted Best Acoustic Act in Atlanta time and time again.

The best CD I bought in 1997,

This album shows an incredible range both lyrically and vocally for Michelle Malone. I find it to be an incredibly personal album that inspires reflection as the listener tries to make sense of the sometimes disjointed poetry of her lyrics, (which sadly, are not printed with this CD). Sexy, sultry, and sometimes sad, it is always an album that makes friends' ears perk up and ask, "Who is this?". Favorite cuts are "The Edge", a moody, bluesy tune -- you can just picture her crooning in a smoky bar; and "Dimming Soul" which is actually a beautiful, uplifting love tribute despite it's deceptively depressing title. A worthwhile addition to any CD collection.

A work of varied styles that shows MM's talent!,

While this CD is not as varied in musical stylings as her first CD, "A New Experience," Michelle Malone does prove that she is not a genre rock singer/songwriter. The styles on this album range from classic rock, where we see that Michelle has an emmense amount of talent on the electric guitar, to more jazz and blues.

ATLANTA,
This review is from: Beneath the Devil Moon (Audio CD)
Michelle Malone should be a bigger name with all the five star reviews she gets. I've seen her in concert several times and she always pours it on. My family lived in Atlanta around the time of this record (down the street actually) and there was always a buzz about any project she was working on. The album: Blue Suede, Mary Magdalene, and Green are my favorites though Grace, My Green Thumb, and title tune Devil Moon are close behind. She's a pretty adequate guitarist, has an awesome voice, and above average writing skills. I like her edgier stuff--harder guitar and her shriekier vocals--not so much the softer songwriting she's also good at. Straighter, harder would get noticed more than arty touches. She has it all though.

I love Michele Malone, singer & songwriter. This album, Beneath the Devil Moon, is a good mix of slow and quite with enough giddy-up and go. I listen to this often in the car, as well as her "Tighten-up the Bedsprings"...yea-haw!

"Devil Moon" is Michelle at her best. She has the voice of an angel, the lyrics of painful experience, and her music veers "Grace"fully from rock to new folk to near-jazz with amazing versatility. She'll rock you with "Medicated Magdalene" and "Blue Suede", cross-you-over with "Grace" and "In the Weeds", and croon you mellow with "The Edge". Then "Dimming Soul" hits you like a Joplin redux and you're hooked and buying CD's for all your friends. Cannot say enough about the talents of Ms. Malone....
