Here is a post from As I Lay Dying's website to fans who want this album:
"Please stop paying $40 - $75 for our old CD's on used CD websites! This May we're re-releasing our first two recordings previously out on Pluto Records. Both "Beneath the Encasing of Ashes", which was recorded two months after the band started, and our split EP songs, which were recorded a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why these christian bands try ripping off zao ?
Can't they come out with their own vocals styles ?Well, as far as the music goes...I hate as i lay dying but i decided to give their debut a chance because i didnt enjoy their other album frail words collapse but hey it doesn't mean that their debut will suck for the fact that many debut's are better then its continues release right ? "Please stop paying $40 - $75 for our old CD's on used CD websites! This May we're re-releasing our first two recordings previously out on Pluto Records. Both "Beneath the Encasing of Ashes", which was recorded two months after the band started, and our split EP songs, which were recorded a year later, will both be on one CD. Wait until May and you'll spend less than $15 to get two CD's worth of material. Understand that it is old material, but you'll be suprised hearing what we did to some of the songs to make them sound clearer."

SO PLEASE DON'T PAY RIDICULOUS PRICES TO OTHER PEOPLE. WAIT AND SUPPORT THE BAND WITH YOUR MONEY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I got this CD!, February 18, 2005
This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
A lot of people think As I Lay Dying's new CD is better, but I think this one is their best. It's an amazing release and I'm sorry I took so long to review it. I've had it for well over a year now and has been a regular in my rotation since. Their riffs and vocals blow you away every time you listen to them and I can't get enough of it. If you have "Frail Words Collapse" and haven't gotten this one yet, do so. It's worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rottedpileofdecayskin Is A Moron, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
Yes, this does sound like Zao at some parts, but this is a great album by a great band. Personally, I think it's the best so far, even though I love "Frail Words Collapse" a lot. Besides, you can't just hate a band because YOU think they sound like something else.

It's tragic that this CD went out of print. It's such a great album. The opener, "Beneath The Encasing Of Ashes", picks things up, and "Forced To Die" and "The Voices That Betray Me" show that this band knows how to play some good music. If you are a fan of As I Lay Dying OR Zao, I'd advise that you try to find this album if possible. Believe me, it's just that good.

New album, "Shadows Are Security", coming this June! (I hope they do a repress of "Beneath The Encasing Of Ashes").

5.0 out of 5 stars FREAKING AWESOME!!!!, December 7, 2001
This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
This isnt another one of those melody lacking flat riff repeating, run of the mill hardcore bands. As I Lay Dying is great. They perfectly blend the hardcore riffs in with the melodic tunes of distorted guitar. The screamer is amazing...and they also put on a great live show. (I saw em at the Revelation Room in Canton, TX) These guys really know how to rock. The lyrics are also amazingle powerful and you can put them to your every day life. If you have any musical taste whatsoever, buy this CD, you will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zao's cousin, November 8, 2001
This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
A dark yet melodic sound is accompanied with the raging vocals and pounding guitar distortion. If you like Zao's newest cd (self titled) then you'll like As I lay Dying. They sound alike in many aspects.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars, October 17, 2004

This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
The vocalist sounds way too much like Dan from ZAO. The Gothenberg black metalsih scream is predominate in this particular style of Metalcore. Frail Words Collapse, their 2nd CD, is MUCH better than this by a long shot (mostly because of the drumming and the new vocals). However that isn't saying this band is bad. As I Lay Dying is a San Diego based metalcore band created in 2000; that has gone through a name change, two members leaving to join former Solid-State-now-Pluto-Records recording artist Society's Finest, and one to Militia's Noise Ratchet while lead vocalist Tim Lambesis left SF to start afresh with As I Lay Dying, themselves. Beneath the Encasing of Ashes is their debut release on Pluto Records. With an underlying growl and musicianship that keeps you guessing, As I Lay Dying is a delightful addition to the hardcore scene. Lyrics that turn from hopeless to hope-filled; this is a reputable addition to their soaring heavy medleys. The last thing that the Dying does is drag a song on, as they clock in at almost 30 minutes, which is pretty impressive for 12 tracks, and a lot happens in this short time. Check this out along with their 2nd CD and also be sure to check out the new Society's Finest CD "Love, Murder and a Three Letter Word" today also.

This is one of the best metalcore bands out there right now. More metal than harcore and all very devestating and impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than re-release!, July 28, 2007

This review is from: Beneath the Encasing of Ashes (Audio CD)
the original is much better than the re-release. it has more of a raw sound than the processed sound on the new version. i prefer to hear what the band can do instead of the recording engineer.
