Book Description

Annabelle Marco and Michael Contelli are both only children of Italian-Americans. Next door neighbors since they were both five years old, they both receive their parents’ constant attention and are regularly subjected to their meddlesome behavior. In high school and then in college, as their relationship moves from friendship to love, Annabelle finds herself battling her parents, his parents, and even Michael. She feels smothered by them all and seeks independence through an unplanned and unexpected decision that she comes to regret and that ultimately alters the course of her life, Michael’s life, and the lives of both of their parents.

Set in Annapolis, Maryland, New York City, and London, England, in the 1980s and 1990s, Beneath the Mimosa Tree examines both Annabelle’s and Michael’s journeys over the span of ten years as we hear their alternating voices tell the story of self-discoveries, the nature of well-meaning families, and the sense of renewal that can take place when forgiveness is permitted.

From the Author

THANK YOU:  Thank you to Readers Favorite! BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE received the Bronze Award for Contemporary Fiction, 2012. I'm honored...

Dear Readers,

Letters play an important part in "Beneath the Mimosa Tree," so I thought I would write one in the form of a message here to you, prospective readers, to say thank you for considering reading my book.

This novel started as a short story, and with the encouragement from one of my professors who suggested I take it from the short story form to a novel many years ago, I decided to tackle the project. It was written with much love, commitment, and energy, as this is a story I'd wanted to create for many, many years.

It was an absolute pleasure delving into the worlds of Michael and Annabelle, and I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much I enjoyed creating them and their story.

With gratitude,

What a fabulous book! I am typically a pretty fast reader, but I loved this story so much I didn't want it to end. The characters were so real and it was so easy to relate to all of the emotions. I loved the ending and loved the special touch of Vivi! I can't wait for the next novel from Ms. Verni.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beneath the Mimosa Tree March 31, 2012
By Darlene
I found this novel captivating from beginning to end. Stephanie Verni creatively portrays a beautiful story of two young people's love and its evolution in "Beneath the Mimosa Tree". The story is written through the eyes of the two main characters, Michael and Annabelle. Verni imaginatively flips from one character to the other, leaving the reader always wanting more. She also paints the backdrop, predominantly Annapolis, Maryland; but also London and New York vividly. I almost felt as if I was with the characters as the story unfolded. All in all, it was a great feel good book, perfect read for a vacation.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED this book!! April 21, 2012
By Chrysti
A beautifully written story about life, love, regret and forgiveness. I brought this book on vacation and was hooked from the beginning. I loved the way the author developed the characters -- I felt like I knew them and could relate to what they were feeling. My daughter read it after me and loved it so much she is reading it again! I was so sorry to see the book end and I hope we see more from Stephanie Verni in the future. Great for summer. Great for a book club. Just plain great in every way.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite novel! April 17, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
What a beautiful, captivating story! I was drawn in from the first sentence, and couldn't put this book down! I felt as if I was right there with the characters. It takes a special author to be able to do that to their audience, and I believe that Stephanie Verni is much more than a special author. I laughed, I cried, I felt connected to the book in every way. I can't say enough positive things about "Beneath the Mimosa Tree." This is a book that you will cherish and pass along to everyone you know!

Stephanie Verni has created a wonderful story of love, life decisions, friendship, and forgiveness with her beautifully written book "Beneath the Mimosa Tree". This is a story we can all relate to in some way and I feel Stephanie did a tremendous job of creating two characters that were real and vulnerable. I also loved the bonds of friendship with the supporting characters and how they each supported their friend through life no matter what. I was captivated from page one!

It takes place in Annapolis which is very near my home so I could easily picture the surroundings. The author did a good job of developing the main and supporting characters in a way that way that had everyone suffering the consequences of their choices.
