Book Description

Annabelle Marco and Michael Contelli are both only children of Italian-Americans. Next door neighbors since they were both five years old, they both receive their parents’ constant attention and are regularly subjected to their meddlesome behavior. In high school and then in college, as their relationship moves from friendship to love, Annabelle finds herself battling her parents, his parents, and even Michael. She feels smothered by them all and seeks independence through an unplanned and unexpected decision that she comes to regret and that ultimately alters the course of her life, Michael’s life, and the lives of both of their parents.

Set in Annapolis, Maryland, New York City, and London, England, in the 1980s and 1990s, Beneath the Mimosa Tree examines both Annabelle’s and Michael’s journeys over the span of ten years as we hear their alternating voices tell the story of self-discoveries, the nature of well-meaning families, and the sense of renewal that can take place when forgiveness is permitted.

"Beneath the Mimosa Tree" is a lovely, well-written and well-edited story of childhood sweethearts, Annabelle Marco and Michael Contelli. The story's true-to-life plot flows smoothly to the book's conclusion, and "Beneath the Mimosa Tree" is a story to read and cherish.

From the Author

THANK YOU:  Thank you to Readers Favorite! BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE received the Bronze Award for Contemporary Fiction, 2012. I'm honored...

Dear Readers,

Letters play an important part in "Beneath the Mimosa Tree," so I thought I would write one in the form of a message here to you, prospective readers, to say thank you for considering reading my book.

This novel started as a short story, and with the encouragement from one of my professors who suggested I take it from the short story form to a novel many years ago, I decided to tackle the project. It was written with much love, commitment, and energy, as this is a story I'd wanted to create for many, many years.

It was an absolute pleasure delving into the worlds of Michael and Annabelle, and I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much I enjoyed creating them and their story.

With gratitude,
Stephanie

What a fabulous book! I am typically a pretty fast reader, but I loved this story so much I didn't want it to end. The characters were so real and it was so easy to relate to all of the emotions. I loved the ending and loved the special touch of Vivi! I can't wait for the next novel from Ms. Verni.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! March 20, 2014

It takes place in Annapolis which is very near my home so I could easily picture the surroundings. The author did a good job of developing the main and supporting characters in a way that way that had everyone suffering the consequences of their choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page-turner! November 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the first paragraph to the final sentence, this book captivated my interest. I loved the characters, the storyline, and the masterful way that the author, Stephanie Verni, told the story. As I read the novel, I felt like I could be right there in the house next door while Annabelle and Michael began their courtship. The descriptions of Annapolis and Baltimore were painted perfectly. I wish there was a sequel because I enjoyed this book so much and I'm ready for more!Beneath the Mimosa Tree: A Novel
