I like Quentaris, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Beneath Quentaris (Quentaris Series) (Paperback)
Just finished reading this and Quentaris in Flames, and didn't have a problem with reading them in the wrong chronological order. The characters of Tal (street-smart urchin come musician)and Nisha (tavern helper come fire magician) are likeable. It reads like a condensed version of most adult fantasy novels and I never felt burdened with long complex character/plot developments. From the first page, the characters and the adventure just "get on with it". However, I do question the amazing feats of Nisha (who is the "novice" fire magician central character, and has just discovered her talent). But eehhh, its an easy read and the book is a good introduction to fantasy fiction. I'm looking forward to reading Stars of Quentaris.
I've only just started on Quentaris Chronicles - so to other reviewers, please feel free to correct me:
1. Quentaris is a magical city and nearby are rift caves that lead to other worlds.
2. One Quentaris, many authors
3. At least 11 titles in the Quentaris Chronicles series
4. Each author create their own book/characters that revolve around Quentaris.
5. Tal and Nisha, who feature in this book are found in Quentaris in Flames (2003), Beneath Quentaris (2003) and Stars of Quentaris (2006)
