Editorial Reviews

12 Stones emerged from anonymity via their self-titled debut in 2002 and rose to prominence quickly. Singer Paul McCoy's appearance on the debut hit from Evanescence "Bring Me To Life," steady touring, and a strong connection to their growing fan base delivered sales of hundreds of thousands of copies. Beneath The Scars is the first album release since 12 Stones signed with Dallas based independent record label Executive Music Group, a move to innovate the band's sound and extend their reach to a global fan base. According to guitarist Eric Weaver, We've always wanted to reach out to our fans that are all over the world, and finally we are getting to do that (with Executive Music Group). The album includes a diverse array of compositions truly capturing the full gamut of human emotions and delivers a sound that remains undeniably true to 12 Stones.

4.0 out of 5 stars I should hate this band but I can't June 20, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
As I discovered with Anthem For The Underdog, 12 Stones is a band that is just undeniably good and their lyrics are poignant. What we have with this release is some just great ballsy rock. The music is at home on rock radio and yet is different in that there is a deeper quality and better performance than your "typical" modern rock band brings.
I find many of the current trendy rock bands tend to be more bland than band. They have a way of all flowing together in my ears but 12 Stones stands out.
Is it a masterpiece? No. But chances are this is one of the best rock albums you will have bought this year (or last year for that matter). The album is still new to me but I can already tell that this will be one I will continue to listen to and revisit often (especially on road trips). Great vibe and the guys continue to hone their craft. Do yourself a favor and buy it and take the time to digest it as you would a good meal. You will be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first 12 Stones album - Love it! July 1, 2013

I am very pleased with this album. I heard one of the songs on Songza and found the band that way. The entire album is solid with plenty of fast stuff for driving or working out. I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's solid but could have been better May 24, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Im generous in giving this a 4 star rating, should have been a 3.5 rating. Some of the songs on this album are pretty awesome like Infected, Pretty Poison, Bulletproof, that changes everything but I felt that a lot of the album went too soft. There were too many ballads and soft songs on here for my liking. It sounded too poppish for me and some of the songs sounded like the type you have heard before from other artists. I thought their EP back in 2010 was awesome and was hoping that it was going to sound similar to that. Actually one of the songs... Pretty poison, sounded most like the EP that came out a couple years ago. I really like songs like that. The song Psycho sounded too weird for me, its alright but nothing to go crazy for. The songs I mention up above are the ones that I look forward to playing mostly and go out of my way to search and play them when wanting to listen to the new songs. So in the end, I guess my biggest gripes were just too many soft songs and not enough hard catchy songs like Pretty poison. Kinda a shame that we had to wait forever this this album. I have no idea why it was delayed four times. After listening to the samples back last year I had reservations about the songs. When they delayed for another 7 months at the time I thought maybe they were going to make new songs, harder songs because they felt they had put too many soft ones but I guess that wasnt the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for every fan March 23, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have to admit to being a new fan, both of the genre and the group, so I judge this album without preconceived notions. I have heard most of the older hits on Youtube and Pandora, and I purchased AFTU as well. This is definitely a more "mainstreamed" album: less angry, smoother vocals, more ballad heavy. It's not, however, a bad thing. The first 2 tracks are clearly red meat for fans of the heavy stuff, and you would be hard pressed not to sing along. "For the Night" is a swift change of pace, a no-frills feel-good song. After that, IMO, comes the good stuff. Several high quality tracks in the second half of the album are very consistent with the band's overall lyrical style, conveying a message of perseverance and hope in the middle of harsh world. In the middle of all that, like a speed bump on a smooth road, you get Psycho, a high-energy song meant to rile up a live crowd rather than necessarily satisfy a typical album buyer. It gets your attention, but the album might have been better without. And at the end, Pretty Poison, an obligatory breakup song. All in all, I'd say it's very well rounded and every fan, old and new, should get something. Not everyone will like every song, but there are 14 of them, and skip button is always there for your convenience.

I am very happy to have discovered this band, and I hope they do well on their new label. A highly recommended album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album May 11, 2013

This album met every expectation I had for this band. If you liked Potters Field, and Anthem for the Underdog, then Beneath the scars will not disappoint you. My favorites being "blind" and "bury me".
