Book Description

Faced with the prospect of becoming a servant in the home of her social-climbing step-brother and his wife, Jane Evans strikes out on her own after the death of her mother. She becomes the companion of Lady Minerva McAllister who hires her never suspecting that she is secretly the scandalous Lady J___ authoress of books lampooning the follies of high society in Victorian London.

But Lady Minerva has skeletons in her own family closet, most notably her nephew, Adam McAllister, the notorious Earl of Briarcliff. Three times married, two of Lord Briarcliff's wives met tragic ends and the third, packed off back to Paris after being exposed as a bigamous fortune-hunter, was considered by many to have been fortunate to escape with her life.

As Jane travels with Lady Minerva to sinister Briarcliff Castle on the edge of the Irish Sea, she plans to cast the enigmatic earl as the subject of her latest book. Instead she finds herself mesmerized by his dark and brooding charm. But even as the attraction between them grows, they are both endangered by the plots that swirl about the earl; for a jealous, unscrupulous man will stop at nothing, not even murder, to dispose of the earl and steal his title and estate and a scorned woman from the earl's past will do anything to thwart the passion that blossoms between the earl and Jane---a passion born BENEATH A SMUGGLER'S MOON.

Great historical read with just a hint of mystery, all of the usual twists and turns, betrayals, misunderstandings, ghost and at least one death.
Entertaining read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beneath A Smuggler's Moon October 28, 2013

I enjoyed this book. The story progressed at a great pace. The characters were believable and likable. The romance between the hero and heroine progressed nicely with each of them getting to know each other before any major happened. I would recommend this book to romance fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating and Beautiful! October 6, 2013

Very enjoyable book. Great plot with just the right amount of everything. Loved the hero and heroine and all the supporting characters. I was so happy with the ending, for everyone ended perfectly happy, even the villians were 'perfectly ended'! Reccommend very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beneath a Smuggler's Moon August 9, 2013

Jane is out of luck when her stepfather dies and the new heir gives her an ultimatum. Work as a servant in his home, or find employment elsewhere. Jane has a secret- she is a popular novelist. As she takes employment as a companion to an older lady, she begins writing another novel, this one close to home. Unfortunately, real life has become more exciting than even she can put to pen. I loved this story, and I am sure you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!! July 20, 2013

I enjoyed this book very much. I do like historical romances, although my usual choice of genre usually swings more toward zombies and the like. I loved the book within a book aspect of it, and was educated on oubliettes, a plus! Very enjoyable story to pass the time with!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Story June 28, 2013
By Mimi P
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the story. It was very interesting and captivating. Read it in one sitting, just couldn't stop. It kept my attention. Didn't bore me.
There were two things that did kind of bothered me about it.
The first is that the heroine is an authoress and there are a few chapters of the story that she is writing written out for us to read. But the thing is, is that the story she is writing is basically her story of what is happening in her life right now with just different names. I didn't like pretty much reading the same scene twice with the heroine and then the heroine's heroine reliving the same situation. I also didn't like the fact that supposedly she keeps the fact that she is an authoress a secret from everyone, but then the story she is writing is her life exactly, which, i think, the people she interacts with on a daily basis would be able to recognize themselves in her story when it would be published.
The second thing that bothered me was that the hero and the heroine hardly spent any time together, but supposedly they fell in love anyway. It was hard to believe.
Anyway I still like the story, it was good and I didn't know what was going to happen next. It surprised me and it was humorous in parts and I liked all the characters because I liked reading about their lives.
I would recommend it.
