2.0 out of 5 stars Good Summary, but Not Comprehensive, March 15, 1999

This review is from: Beneath the Waters: Guide to Civil War Shipwrecks (Paperback)
James E. Hemphill took on a major task when he decided to write a book on the shipwrecks of the American Civil War. While the book will probably be of value to enthusiasts, it is often not much more than a careful overview of the Offical Records (Navies) regarding shipwrecks. It does have definite value in this sense, but there is not much detail on recent archaeological work on the sites. Still, it is good as an index and a summary, but only for those already versed in the naval side of the Civil War.
