is inspirational in his writings.
We all should have written glowing reviews but, like me, others were probably so speechless with the beauty and the content of Benedictus: Day by Day we lingered too long. I do remember thinking it was underpriced for the art, and art, alone! I remember "writing" somewhere that I would have paid 4 times the price to own this book.
I have gifted Benedictus to others, who were not Catholic, who cherish this gift.
Thanks, Amazon, for having this available when Benedictus first came out. You have great Catholic books! I appreciate that and I also appreciate your Prime service!
Over the past 25 years, I have come across many books of "daily meditations", each one being a great resource for meditation and reflection. Many are patterned after the calendar, with a "topic" for each day; some are more closely patterned after the seasons, be they secular or religious. But this book of daily meditations is very different; this book is a compilation of the writings, talks, and homilies by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, known as Pope Benedict XVI; the topics are more intellectual while still being spiritually reflective. Because of Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign, just a month ago, I thought that perhaps this book would provide me with a new approach, coming from this holy man who has written a collection of books, encyclicals, homilies, and church documents.
Father Cameron, the editor of Magnificat, tediously, with his team, compiled the texts, starting with the writings from 2006 and working backwards. The title, Benedictus is the episcopal motto of Pope Benedict XVI. Here is someone who lived a full life, and yet took the time to discern how much further on the papal journey he could go. Obviously, he has prayed and meditated prior to making this decision, and quite simply, he is teaching me that I, too, need to discern where I am yet to go on this journey, this pilgrimage. When this book became available a short while back, I set the idea aside; it was Benedict XVI's decision to resign that allowed me to re-think about the possibilities of this book, this book of blessings, known as Benedictus: Day to Day with Pope Benedict XVI .Read more ›
