I'm typically not one who likes those "day by day" inspirational books. They tend to be full of material that may have a nice point to make, but nothing that would stick with me through the day. The writings chosen for this work, though, are absolutely amazing. Each reading has given me a deep insight into a particular topic that somehow has a direct bearing on my spiritual life. A good book for any Christian, but particularly for theologians, seminarians and priests.

Pope Benedict is without doubt one of the preeminent Theologians and Philosophers of our time. He is a Master at exploring "truth and love" in a gentle way in his daily meditations. At times, I read them 3 or 4 times to discover the depth he goes to to explain Who we are, Why we are here and our Interface with Our Creator. They become a source of peace and prayer in my daily life. His use of examples from the lives of the Apostles, the Saints and Jesus is a great source of hope for me. I strongly recommend it to all no matter what Faith you are or if you have no Faith.

During his papacy and before, Pope Benedict XVI has given us the fruits of his brilliant mind, loving heart, and devoted service to God. I am glad that I have made a gift of BENEDICTUS: DAY BY DAY WITH POPE BENEDICT XVI to my dear brother who himself is a near genius brilliant man. I hope to make gifts of this volume to others in my life who seem very much committed to the Faith. The words of Our Holy Father are rich with wisdom; but these are not just his own personal brand of holiness and thought; these are the result of his entire life of research in matters of faith and morals, his genuine understanding of holiness and what it is that makes the saints truly friends of God. We are blessed at this epoch in history to have the possibility of reading every single day the words of this great and holy man, not only in this wonderful book, BENEDICTUS, but in all of Pope Benedict XVI's marvelous books and articles. May our minds and hearts open to receive the words of wisdom and the Godliness of this great pope. May we find our own spirituality grow in accord with the blessings he affords us with insight and gentleness. I believe that Pope Benedict XVI will be recognized in history as one of the greatest minds of our time; and in the humility of his life, following as he does, the footsteps of so charismatic a pope as Blessed John Paul II --- in this great humility, may he help us to become one with Christ, meek and humble of heart. In these days of war, hatred, prejudice and cruelty, the words of Pope Benedict XVI ring out calling the world back to God.

I am so sorry this book seems to be discontinued as it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen!

We all should have written glowing reviews but, like me, others were probably so speechless with the beauty and the content of Benedictus: Day by Day we lingered too long. I do remember thinking it was underpriced for the art, and art, alone! I remember "writing" somewhere that I would have paid 4 times the price to own this book.

I have gifted Benedictus to others, who were not Catholic, who cherish this gift.

Thanks, Amazon, for having this available when Benedictus first came out. You have great Catholic books! I appreciate that and I also appreciate your Prime service!

"Blessed are you who come in the name of the Lord!"

Over the past 25 years, I have come across many books of "daily meditations", each one being a great resource for meditation and reflection. Many are patterned after the calendar, with a "topic" for each day; some are more closely patterned after the seasons, be they secular or religious. But this book of daily meditations is very different; this book is a compilation of the writings, talks, and homilies by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, known as Pope Benedict XVI; the topics are more intellectual while still being spiritually reflective. Because of Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign, just a month ago, I thought that perhaps this book would provide me with a new approach, coming from this holy man who has written a collection of books, encyclicals, homilies, and church documents.

Father Cameron, the editor of Magnificat, tediously, with his team, compiled the texts, starting with the writings from 2006 and working backwards. The title, Benedictus is the episcopal motto of Pope Benedict XVI. Here is someone who lived a full life, and yet took the time to discern how much further on the papal journey he could go. Obviously, he has prayed and meditated prior to making this decision, and quite simply, he is teaching me that I, too, need to discern where I am yet to go on this journey, this pilgrimage. When this book became available a short while back, I set the idea aside; it was Benedict XVI's decision to resign that allowed me to re-think about the possibilities of this book, this book of blessings, known as Benedictus: Day to Day with Pope Benedict XVI .
