5.0 out of 5 stars awesome!
This food was priced so well that I couldn't resist picking it up for our local humane society. They were happy to receive the purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars $36 for 21 lbs of bad dog food? You can do a lot better!!!, June 24, 2010
Look at the first three ingredients of the following products (the first ingredients on the list are the highest in the makeup of the food):

Product A: Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal
Product B: Chicken,chicken meal,whole grain brown rice

Does a product primarily composed of corn and "by-products" sound as healthy for your dog as one whose first two ingredients are chicken and followed up by rice, a quality grain? Do dogs feed themselves on primarily corn in the wild? Of course not.

And what if I told you that Product B is sold for $30 per 40lb bag at Costco, while Product A is being sold at $36 for 21lbs worth of inferior food? Which sounds like the better deal to you?

Do yourself a favor and save yourself some cash while also providing a healthier meal for your loved one. I'm not here to push Costco's Kirkland brand dog food, which is Product B in this comparison and is clearly a better value then Beneful. Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Canidae, etc are other examples of much higher quality foods that can be had for a lot cheaper. For once you can eat healthy AND save money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse dog food on the market!!! Don't buy this stuff!, October 24, 2010
My dog was on this food for a while because i like many other people thought the veggies on the bag meant it was healthy but what it really means is their is no substance just corn and wheat gluten and dyes to color the food to make it look like vegetables. Please take it from me, my dog was chewing holes in his skin because of this food,i spent $700 at the vet for anti-histimine shots and creams and visits only to find out from my groomer that it was the food i was giving her. She was allergic to the dyes in it. I started giving her California naturals and she looked like she gained 3 years of her life back. Shiny coat, healthy glassy eyes, good energy and happier than she had been in a while. She is 14 now and i will never buy her anything but wonderful food like Nutro, California naturals, Merritt.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do your research before purchasing this food!, March 26, 2010
By
Please do not buy this dog food! This is one of the worst dog foods on the market. The ingredients are low-quality and can be harmful to animals. The first ingredient is ground yellow corn, which is a low-quality and most dogs have a hard time digesting (most humans have a hard time digesting corn...). The second is chicken by-product, which the Association Of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO)defines chicken by-product meal as, "a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice."

My dogs loved this dog food and I did not have the foresight to research it before purchasing it. Unfortunately, that was a costly mistake that caused one dog a two-month stint at the vet's office with pancreatitis. I regret that I ever purchased this dog food. It was not worth the pain of pancreatitis.

There are many websites that rate dog foods and have great food at the same or lower cost than Beneful. My dogs are currently on Halo, which is great, but very costly. But now required because of the low fat content, due to the pancreatitis. One that I recommend is the Kirkland brand you can find at Costco. It is one of the best dogs foods for the money and consistently rates as one of the best dog foods overall.

Please do your research and read this dog food; there are much better options out there for nutritiously feeding your dog without breaking the bank! I wish there was an option for zero stars because one is too generous.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gas, October 20, 2010
We had given our dogs (two beagles) beneful for a while. They had *constant* gas. We wrote it off as just normal.

Well, we had to switch dog food brands for health reasons, and the gas stopped IMMEDIATELY!! Do not give your dogs this dry dog food unless you own and want to constantly wear a gas mask!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not feed your dogs beneful, May 30, 2010
For everyone on here that says your dogs love it, there is reason they do. It contains sugar and sorbitol (another sweetener). I like Kruspy Kreme donuts...but I wouldn't eat them everyday. If I did, I'd turn out like my dogs who ate beneful....riddled with diabetes and other health problems. Try to imagine the pain of seeing your dogs go blind and eventully have their lives shortened. After finding out (too late) what was in beneful, I have no doubt that it was behind their health problems. I have yet to come across a single other dog food, even other poor quality ones, that have sugar. You are playing russian roulette with your dog's life if you feed them beneful. Trust me. If you have had similar experiences, I'd like to hear from you. Contact me at [...]

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Dog Food, October 5, 2010
We believe it's no coincidence after eating this food for a few months that 2 of my dogs started losing their hair and one died of having (0) blood pressure that was only 6 months old. They were ALWAYS so hungry, beyond normal. We got rid of it, gave it away. One dog eventually grew her hair back, the other one didn't. When you see the beneful food stacked up in Wal-marts you can appreciate what a mass productive product this is.

UPDATE 01/03/2012: Finally after a few years one of our min pins started growing her hair back at (11) years of age after losing it a few years ago from this food. We fed her ORIJEN brand (6 fish) from Canada for a while then switched to something called Orgainix from PetCo (Made in USA) which is like $35 a bag, about the same price as the #1 rated ORIJEN. We now have 4 min pins with shiny coats that are healthy and playful.

dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/beneful-dog-food-dry/ also rates this as one star

Ingredients: Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, sugar, propylene glycol, meat and bone meal, tricalcium phosphate, phosphoric acid, salt, water, animal digest, sorbic acid (a preservative), potassium chloride, dried carrots, dried peas, calcium propionate (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, choline chloride, added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 2), DL-Methionine, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin A supplement, calcium carbonate, copper sulfate, Vitamin B-12 supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, garlic oil, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin D-3 supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, folic acid, biotin, sodium selenite.
Fiber (estimated dry matter content) = 4.7%

The first ingredient in this dog food is corn. Corn is an inexpensive and controversial cereal grain of only modest nutritional value to a dog.
For this reason, we do not consider corn a preferred component in any dog food.
The second item is chicken by-product meal... a dry rendered product of slaughterhouse waste. It's made from what's left of a slaughtered chicken after all the prime cuts have been removed.
In a nutshell, chicken by-products are those unsavory leftovers usually considered "unfit for human consumption".
In addition to organs (the nourishing part), this stuff can contain almost anything... feet, beaks, undeveloped eggs... anything (that is) except skeletal muscle (real meat).

1.0 out of 5 stars The price is ridiculous, February 4, 2010
This review is from: Beneful Healthy Radiance Dry Dog Food, 3.5-Pound Bag (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
I can buy a 17 pound bag of this exact dog food for $14.09 at Giant Eagle. On Amazon it comes out to be $22 for the same amount - AND you have to wait for it to be delivered. How is this a good thing?

1.0 out of 5 stars Dog would not eat this food, January 21, 2012
By
Kathleen Voss "KV" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My dog would not eat this food. I tried mixing dog gravy with it, putting his treats on it - no luck.

I'm not sure why that was but think that is a bad thing. I probably should have read the reviews online before buying it at petsmart.
