It was wonderful to discover that a woman traveling alone in Victorian America could do so without fear of molestation. In our enlightened era, we can't do that today at High Noon! They must have been doing something right, those Victorians. After reading this book, I don't see how any woman could bristle at a man holding a door open for her. Some still do, thank God and I'm ALWAYS grateful! The most important message in the book for me was that everyone should strive to be a better person in everyway. Amen to that!!!

Those were the days!... when boys were raised to be honorable men and a man who was rude to a woman would be shunned.

In the rush that followed WW1 and the death of British and American Victorian civilization we certainly gained alot. But what did we lose? What price did we pay? If interested in these questions, then buy this book.

I had a great time reading this book. I only wish there had been more practical information on how to proceed on bringing back the charm of Victorian living to our daily lives.

A very wonderful book, it's a real eyes opener. There is a lot of truth in there. The author, really shows us how different society is today from the Victorian era, and shows we should have kept some of their ways of doing things, and can learn alot on how to live from them era.

I was greatly disappointed in this book. Over half of the testis spent rudely bashing the modern era. The facts about Victorianlife are such as are already known to the average third-grader. Most unpleasantly, Miss Lichter pollutes the book throughout with rude, UNmannerly accounts of the post-Victorian era, with obscenities, loaded language, and provocative and angry descriptions of the morally bankrupt society we live in today. Were I to wish to read a graceless and cheap account of how depressing today's times are, I should buy a newspaper instead. I am sorry to have learned nothing from this book.
