5.0 out of 5 stars ALL BENGAL OWNERS MUST HAVE! INFO BREEDER'S LEAVE OUT!

3.0 out of 5 stars Although not comprehensive for breeders, still satisfying.
As a Bengal Breeder I found this book informative about some background on the Bengal. Many photos and illustrations. I recommend it for people newly exposed to the Bengal cat. The book unknowingly operates as a good guide on how to select a Bengal cat and how to be a good owner of any cat.

Don't expect more from this book however. Many Bengal breeder web sites...

There are not many books out on the Bengal Breed, but this one is the best! It gave us much insight on the Bengal's nature. We have other domestic cats and the Bengal was just different, the book explained the why's and how's. Our Bengal had something wrong with her legs when she was about 7 months old. We went straight to the book and it even explained the disorder that could possibly affect a Bengal. We were lucky that information was there, our breeder said they had never heard of it. A vet surgeon performed an operation on both back legs and she is perfect now. Without the detail this book gives we never would have known. We value the information highly that is contained in this book. A lot of breeders leave the less desirable things out when you purchase a Bengal. This book gives you the full story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book about a great breed of cats!, October 16, 1998

This review is from: Bengal Cats: Everything about Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Health Care, and Behavior (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
Fun book to read about a breed of cats that has a wonderful personality, amazing energy, and a beautiful coat! This book gives detailed information about Bengal behavior and disposition (even friendlier than other breeds of house cat). Gives general information on how to care for cats. After reading this book, we bought two Bengals. We believe our Bengals are human! This is a MUST-READ for potential and current cat owners in order to understand the uniqueness of these cute felines.

Many Bengal breeder web sites drill into detail about the Bengal's nature, traits and colors where this book leaves off.

There is also a section on breeding and birthing Bengal cats. It's rather universal so anyone considering breeding of any cat may benefit from chapter 10.

1.0 out of 5 stars Handy Reference for the Incredibly Obvious, November 3, 2003

This review is from: Bengal Cats: Everything about Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Health Care, and Behavior (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
This book is not worth having. Apart from trivia facts it does not contain any useful information on the Bengal breed, inasfar as their physiology, behavior, or health is concerned. We've had some diarrhea trouble with our Bengal kitten (F4), and we collected all useful and pertinent information through time-consuming research on the internet.

What the book does really well is spell out the incredibly obvious. Did you, for example, know that kittens can be hurt if they fall from high places or get run over by cars? In case these concepts are too involved for you, both scenarios are vividly illustrated with pencil drawings ("Scared kitten on high shelf", "Scared kitten under car tire")

The few facts that are specific to Bengals (interest in water) we learned from casual pre-purchase conversations with the breeder. Due to its format, unfortunately, this cannot even serve as coffee-table book.

I meant to give page references for the above mentioned drawings, but the book has already disappeared into oblivion. I could not locate it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bengal, September 21, 2004
This review is from: Bengal Cats: Everything about Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Health Care, and Behavior (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book but was a little disappointed as I expected it to be much more detailed. I thought it was more of a beginners book to cats. A great book if you have never had a cat or done any research on bengal cats.

This book is full of info on everything you could posibly want to know about bengals. I bought it right after I got a bengal kitten and it has helped a LOT! It explains everything from behavior to the eating habits that they can have. I would have made many more mistakes if it hadn't been for this, now I have a happy healthy bengal! BUY THIS BOOK, ITS GREAT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Average Bengal Book, January 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book has some good pictures and some good information, but some is contradictory. For example, if you buy premium cat food your paying for advertising, etc., but the next sentence reads that when buying cat food, you get what you pay for. Confusing. Otherwise the book tells the positives of owning a Bengal, not the drawbacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete guide for a Bengal cat owner or fanatic!, June 7, 2002

This review is from: Bengal Cats: Everything about Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Health Care, and Behavior (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) (Paperback)
This is more of a basic book that goes into Bengal cats in general. There is some detailed information but most of it is what you should look for in this breed and how to care for them. There are no photographs but only black and white drawings so do not expect otherwise.
I feel it is an informative guide but more for those who are new to cats and raising them.Great beginners book for Bengal lovers!

I was very pleased with this book. My wife and I would like to open a bengal cattery someday, but we had many questions about quality of cats, care, showing, this book answered about everything. It explains things in a simple way that even I can understand it : ) I loved it.
