One of the golden opportunities for a go-getter in the West at the time of California's new statehood, was on the waters from San Francisco into the wide-open interior of the new territory. Big money and greed impel the lawless interests of powerful men in cutthroat competition for big business and big profits on the inland trade. A suspense filled adventure that takes place in a new environment of the beautiful and dangerous steamboats trade that few modern descendants of the Old western pioneers know about. As an Easterner, I had never read about about any of this riverine rivalry in the West. It is an intriguing and action filled story
