In a minority of cases, patients with an enlarged prostate gland show symptoms. The frequency of symptomatic and asymptomatic hyperplasia increases with age (to 40% of males over 70 years). Symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia are usually urinary tract obstruction and, less commonly, infection. Treatment has often been surgical but effective drugs are now being promoted. This book, designed for urologists and GPs, is an account of BPH and all the treatment options.
