Book Description

February 1, 2007
Teach your dog to do what Benji does in the movies!

This is a non-regulation training guide that's fun to read, fun to work with, and captures the spirit of how training for a Benji movie is approached. A book that dispels the notion that training your dog must be difficult, or must be done by an expert, or that you need a PhD in animal psychological to even try.

Joe Camp spent almost thirty years absorbing and applying with his own dogs the ways and means of the best trainer who ever lived, and he's compiled the essence into simple yet magical answers for you. This is not a book to train for the show ring, or for graded obedience in the traditional sense. The purpose of this book is to teach you to have terrific communication with your dog, and have fun at the same time.

If you've never had a true understanding of communication with your dog, this book will change your life. And your dog's!

About the Author

Joe is a passionate speaker, author of three published novels, a non-fiction book, and several childrenÂ’s books, and the writer-director-producer of seven motion pictures (including all of the Benji movies), four television specials and a childrenÂ’s television series. He is an advocate for children and homeless animals. Before embarking on the latest Benji movie, Joe crisscrossed the country for three months searching for the new Benji in an animal shelter. The original Benji came from a shelter and caused more than a million adoptions around the country. Joe believed this was a worthwhile mission, and in the time since the current Benji was discovered in a Mississippi shelter, she has caused more than one billion media exposures for shelters and rescue groups everywhere.

Benji lives with Joe, his wife Kathleen, four other dogs, two cats, and three kids.

More About the Author

The National Best Selling author of The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd has seven new books about his continuing journey through the enigmatic world of horses.

Joe Camp, film writer, producer, director, author, passionate speaker, and the man behind the canine superstar Benji believes that anything is possible if you work hard enough and have faith in yourself. He was told by industry "experts" not to bother with the original Benji film; that it wouldn't work. He proved the experts wrong and now, after five Benji movies, he's at it again with his latest career as an author. His recent highly praised and best selling book The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd published in 2008 by the Harmony Books imprint of Random House is in its seventh printing and is changing the lives of horses and people all across the planet.

His next book The Soul of a Horse Blogged - The Journey Continues picks up where The Soul of a Horse left off with the adoption of a pregnant mustang and continues through he and wife Kathleen's move from the dry rocky hillside pasture of southern California to the wet grassy hillsides of their new middle Tennessee home.

His new series of eBook Nuggets from The Soul of a Horse is packed with inspiring new stories and compelling new discoveries.

Joe Camp showed us the heart and soul of a dog when he created Benji. Now, in these engaging, emotional, and often humorous stories, he deftly lures us into the heart and soul of a horse, unlocking the mystery of a majestic creature who has survived on earth, without assistance, for fifty-two million years.

Camp has written, produced and directed seven theatrical motion pictures (including all of the Benji movies) cumulatively grossing well over the equivalent of $600 million in today's dollars, making him one of the most successful independent filmmakers of all time.

Camp ignored the "experts" who said the original Benji movie would never work. He raised the money from private sources to produce the film, but when completed the movie was turned down by every major film distributor in Hollywood. Camp and his partner had to form their own distribution company and release the picture themselves worldwide from their offices in Dallas. In spite of the many obstacles, Variety reported that the film was the #3 grossing movie of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, but nice book, February 10, 2008

This review is from: The Benji Method Dog Training Book (Spiral-bound)
I haven't used this book a whole lot yet, but I've looked through it and started training my dog. It tells you how to train your dog to do quite a few different things, and at the end it tells you to use the same principles taught in the book to train your dog to do other things if you want to. Before when I would tell my dog to sit, he wouldn't pay any attention, but when I started using the hand signal this book says to use, he started obeying. Now he almost always sits when I tell him to, and sometimes he'll even sit just when I show him the hand signal. I'm looking forward to using this book to train my dog to do other things as well. I wish it had pictures, but the descriptions in the book are good enough to let you know what to do.
