Book Description

Yesterday Tab Bennett was a bank teller. Today she’s at the center of a centuries old war between Light and Dark. Tomorrow – well let’s just say she’ll be lucky if she lives to see it.

Engaged to her childhood sweetheart, employed at the local bank, and finally living on her own for the first time at twenty-four years-old, Tab Bennett has no interest in a fairy tale life. She’s perfectly happy with the normal one she already has. But when her sister is murdered on a moon-dark night, revealing a world of power and magic she never dreamed existed, a fairy tale is exactly what her life becomes. Figures it would have to be the Grimm kind.

Just like that, the life she had planned is over. Instead of cashing checks and handing out lollipops, Tab is unraveling clandestine assassination plots and learning to wield the magic that is her birthright. And as if fulfilling her destiny isn’t hard enough, she’ll also have to choose between Robbin, a man who’s turned out to be a lot more complicated than the proverbial boy next door, and Alexander, the handsome prince whose smile leaves her weak-kneed and weak-willed.

Now, while Tab struggles to hold on to the human world she’s always known and understand her place in the magical one she’s just discovered, dangerous forces are gathering close to home. If she wants to live to see happily ever after, she’ll have to figure out who she can trust, who wants her dead, and why. The answers will change everything she believes about herself, the people she loves, and the place she calls home.

(Tab Bennett and the Inbetween is intended for a mature audience. It is not appropriate for readers under 18. )

1.0 out of 5 stars This offends my ladyparts (WARNING: SPOILERS) November 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
WARNING: SPOILERS

Insufferable.

That's the best way to describe this book.

Add the words "petulant," "dithering" and "skeezy" and you have the main character, Tabitha ("Tab") Bennett.

Normally, I don't question other people's reviews (to each their own), but I seriously worry about the people who gave this four or five stars. Or three. Probably two, too. I realize just because I have lady parts doesn't mean I can speak for all women, but I can't see how any self-respecting female would get anything more than an itchy burning feeling from ingesting this garbage.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I feel betrayed. I had an advanced review copy, but I realized it had already come out and, from the gripping first chapter, I just went ahead and bought it.

Tab Bennett's sisters are being murdered (and buried on their family's property). Her father refuses to go to the police and makes up lies to cover the disappearance of the girls. Suspicious, right? But Tab doesn't question it and soon finds out that she's an elf princess being raised in the human world until its safe for her to return her land. Her "family" is actually her advisors and her fiancé, Robbin, is actually her bodyguard, although he wasn't supposed to fall in love with her like he did.

Interesting right? Totally did not see that coming.

And then comes out her inner slut. She abandons Robbin at her sister's funeral when she spots Alex, a mysterious stranger who turns out to be her arranged prince from the elf world. She throws herself into his arms and begins an intense makeout session. In front of her grandfather. In front of her fiancé. At her sister's funeral.

No one thinks this is skanktastic?

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to enjoy when you hate the main character July 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have to start off by saying that according to kindle I am 76% done with the book...but I'm done. I just can't stand to read about Tabitha Bennett anymore.

The book starts off great...a LOT of promise. In fact...I couldn't put this book down when I first started.

Tabitha's sisters are turning up dead...her Pop is keeping secrets from her and she quickly finds out that her whole family...including her fiance are in on them. Turns out she's the Queen of lightness and she's an Elf. She was sent to live in the human world for her own protection and her 'family' is actually a team of people sent to aid and guide her. She also finds out that an enchantment had been placed on her at birth to be head-over-heels for her future husband who she has never met AND who doesn't happen to be her fiance.

So, sounds interesting, right?

Except for one critical flaw which is that Tabitha is selfish, spoiled and a bit dim-witted.

The deal-breaker for me is really how Tabitha treats her ex-fiance. This love-triangle between her, her fiance (Robbin) and the new perfect stranger (Alexander) isn't really much of a love-triangle at all. It's pretty much Tabitha and Alexander trying to jump each other any chance they get (starting from the second they meet). When Alexander's not around, Tabitha is busy leading Robbin on and making him think he stands a chance with her while simultaneously treating him like crap. No, she's not purposely leading him on but it doesn't make her actions (and words) any less damaging.

I just couldn't read anymore of that. I feel like the author tried to create this love-at-first-sight, soulmate kind of love with Alexander and all it did was make me sick. After all...

Tab Bennett & the Inbetween starts out with an incredibly fascinating scenario. Tab's sisters have been getting killed, one a month for the last three months. They disappear into the dark forest surrounding their familial home and Tab starts getting visions of their deaths. Only they don't come in time to save them, just to know when to go look for their bodies buried somewhere out there.

On the day of her last sister's funeral the world as Tab knows it comes crashing down around her. Everything changes. She finds out that she's not just a young woman working at a bank, with a bunch of family, but the story starts to unfold that she's got a much larger place in a world she never knew existed. In fact, she's princess of the Light elves.

I have to admit that at this point I started to lose a bit of interest. Prior to this it was interesting and intriguing. I thought we'd spend a lot of time trying to figure out what was happening, who was killing her sisters, who was hunting her, and how - or if - she was going to integrate back into the world of the elves. Unfortunately, the opposite occurs because when Tab shows up at the funeral with her finace she's suddenly drawn to another male, going so far as to make out with him on the porch in front of everyone. Thus started the love-triangle that I didn't know was coming. (Yes, I know it's in the blurb, but I hadn't read the blurb in its entirety.)

I have a bit of a bias against love-triangles. I think since Twilight they've been overdone - every young adult, and a good portion of adult, novels have one. I'm tired of reading them. They're manufactured drama and angst, usually. I was pleasantly surprised that this love triangle was handled a bit differently than others I've read.
