From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6. Benni is a contemporary 10-year-old boy whose father has left and whose mother is struggling with drugs and alcohol. Victoria is a nine-year-old girl from 1859 who slips in and out of time in search of news about her sick brother and mother. Their paths cross at a school in Maine where they end up helping one another. By asking Benni's assistance in finding out about her family, Victoria enables him to experience love and the responsibility of being needed. Through her descriptions, Victoria conveys the devastation of diphtheria, especially for children. This is an interesting and, at times, moving case study. Unfortunately, neither major nor minor characters spring to life. The use of capital letters to indicate shouting or distress is disconcerting and unnecessary. A flawed but well-meaning time fantasy about two children in unfortunate circumstances.?Amy Kellman, The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh

Review
Ten-year old Benni can't live with his mother anymore. Victoria (the ghost who haunts his school) can't find out what happened to hers. As Benni struggles to find the answers that will free Victoria, he learns about himself and the true meaning of friendship. Will he be able to help Victor (and himself) before time runs out? Benni & Victoria: Friends Through Time is a charming, engaging tale for grades 4 through 8, very nicely illustrated with black & white drawings. --
