Book Description

Ben Carlisle's longtime dream has been to travel west with his family. When he is offered a newspaper job in Detroit, he is forced to question whether moving west is really God's will for him. Can he leave behind his grandfather, the girl he thought he loved, and an opportunity few writers could even dream about? Can he risk the life of one of his best friends, or face an old enemy head-on? What price will he have to pay just to make his writing live?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I began writing this series more than twenty years ago, inspired by Mark Twain and also the Sugar Creek Gang. I wanted a boy character young Christians could grow up with, who isn't always perfect, but who is always learning lessons from God's Word. The recurring theme is how God doesn't work the way man expects, but always does what's needed in our lives. I wanted to give a nod to romance, to waiting and trusting God to bring the right partner into your life too.

From the Inside Flap

Will Ben have to give up his dream of going west with his family to accept a once-in-a-lifetime offer to work at a Detroit newspaper? Ben makes a decision that might cost him the life of one of his best friends. It tears his fragile relationship with Violet Mitchell apart. He meets once more the bully who almost killed him, and has a chance to take his revenge.

More About the Author

Mary C. Findley
My best friend and I did crazy things growing. We had campouts and cookouts, once in the snow, when we could hardly get a fire started. We ran through the side streets of town is soaking wet clothes because she wanted to swim in the river near my house but insisted on going to her house to get dry. Her family "adopted" me and took me to church 30 miles away in a crowded station wagon and I got carsick every week. One of my favorite things was climbing a giant pine tree and drawing or writing and I always wanted to write and illustrate my own books.
I met my longsuffering and ridiculously smart hubby over thirty years ago in South Carolina. We lived all over the country while raising 3 children.
I also love drama, costume design and making puppets. Think ostriches and elephants, for example. You can see a teaser for my Merchant of Venice in an hour with a mostly female cast on YouTube, FFVp5657 channel.
