Really swings,

This CD really swings. It is a collection of Benny Goodman radio recordings and recordings from other live venues. The quality of the recordings is good considering the time and place. I highly recommend this for recording to those who want a reasonably price recording that gives a taste of live swing at the height of the era!

Delta/Laserlight's "Collector" series includes discs by Armstrong, Prima, Basie, Hines, James, Les Paul Trio, Waller, Brown, Jimmy Dorsey, Miller, King Cole Trio, Ellington, Shaw, Herman, Getz, Rich, Fitzgerald, Gillespie & Vaughn.. JAZZ COLLECTOR EDITION - BENNY GOODMAN ORCHESTRA (15 762) is a collection of radio transcription disc dubs. All have minor surface flaws (small pops or minor rasp) but no significant groove damage. All begin with announcer intros and/or those of Goodman himself. Don Wilson, (of the Jack Benny radio and TV shows) opens Track #11. Bud Collyer ("Superman/Clark Kent" on radio and in cartoons) chats with Goodman prior to Benny's own "Seven Comes Eleven." None here are altered with fake stereo or heavy filtering. The first five songs have the fullest audio range. The rest sound only a bit tinnier. PROGRAM-- [3:31] Jumpin' at the Woodside [2:37] Spring Song [3:05] A String of Pearls [2:36] I'll See You in My Dreams - v. the Clarinades [3:23] Stompin' at the Savoy [3:43] King Porter Stomp [3:14] Seven Come Eleven [2:56] Great Day [3:18] Lonely Moments [4:12] Oh Baby! [2:57] Moon Faced and Starry Eyed - v. Helen Forrest [2:41] Mahzel (Good Luck) [4:53] Sing, Sing, Sing TOTAL TIME: 43:06

Sing, Sing, Sing is Fun, Fun, Fun,
This review is from: Benny Goodman Orchestra: Jazz Collector Edition (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD. It has the greatest greatest hits for a low price. I highly recommend this to someone who is looking to introduce himself to big band and swing. For those who are "experienced" Benny Goodman fans, try the CD of his 1938 Carnegie Hall concert.

This is my absolute favorite CD! It gets me hoppen and puts me in a great mood. Every song is kick-up-your-feet fun. I can't listen to it without tapping my foot or dancing around the room. There's nothing like Bnny Goodman music, and this CD is the best!

I'm not an expert on Benny Goodman, but I know I like his swing music. His peppy clarinet puts the swing in my day.

As has been previously written, this compilation of radio broadcasts is Benny at his best. All of the songs are "keepers" and swing as only Benny can do it. Two of his more famous songs, "King Porter Stomp" and "Sing, Sing, Sing" are somewhat different than the original RCA versions, but they are still excellent. This CD is a steal, especially if you buy it used.
