After nearly two years in the studio, Benny Ibarra is ready to show the world his new album La Marcha De La Vida, on sale this upcoming fall in U.S. “Calaveras”, the first single, is a duet with renowned Mexican singer/songwriter Lila Downs – Latin Grammy winner and performer of “Burn It Blue”, Oscar nominated song in 2002 as part of the soundtrack for the film Frida. "Calaveras" is a fusion of folk-rock, cumbia, reggae and pop that tells the story of “two unknown characters who don’t know whether they are alive or dead„ or they are just simply giving life to a daring fantasy and a sensual dream,” says Benny.
La Marcha De La Vida took Benny on a musical journey where he found inspiration in diverse places like Veracruz, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Los Angeles and New York; the album was finally recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas. This new release is a reflection of Benny as an artist and human being. “I found myself losing battles and finding solutions, losing fears and finding faith” confesses Benny about his latest production.
For La Marcha De La Vida, Benny became involved in all musical and creative aspects of the album, co-producing it along well-known producers Aureo Baqueiro – Latin Grammy winner, with credits such as Alejandro Fernandez, Paulina Rubio, Thalia, etc; Patrick Dillett – three-time Grammy winner and producer of albums by Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, David Byrne; and Vico Gutierrez – credits such as Café Tacuba, Timbiriche and Enanitos Verdes.
Prior to his 2010 production, Benny Ibarra already had a long history in the entertainment world. Being a musician, singer, producer and actor from an early age, Benny comes from a family of artists. His mother, Julissa is an actress, singer and producer and both his father Benny and his brother Alejandro have dedicated their careers to the music and acting world.
He made his debut in 1981 in the Mexican soap opera “Novia, Esposa y Amante” (Girlfriend, Wife and Lover) before starting his musical career in the popular teen band Timbiriche in 1982; participating in seven albums, selling millions of copies worldwide and touring throughout Mexico, United States, Central and South America.
He also starred in the Spanish adaptations of acclaimed musicals like “Grease”, "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Gospell" and "Blood Brothers."
After leaving Timbiriche, Benny studied jazz, guitar and classical music at Walnut Hill School for the Arts and Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
Upon his return to Mexico, Benny participated in Festival OTI as composer and musical director, for which he was recognized as the youngest orchestra director in the history of the event. He also produced five albums for La Onda Vaselina and one for the progressive rock band Santa Sabina.
As an actor, Benny has starred in the films “Ciudad de Ciegos” (City of Blinds) (1991), “¿Quién Diablos es Juliette?” (Who the Hell is Juliette?) (1997), and “Amor Xtremo” (Extreme Love) (2006). Benny also took on one of the leading roles in the TV series “SOS Sexo y Otros Secretos” (SOS Sex and Other Secrets).

“El Tour de Benny” (Benny’s Tour) was a highly successful tour that took him throughout Mexico, the United States and Central America. Thousands of fans crowded all venues to see Benny live; with La Cumbre Tajin in Mexico (2005) being the biggest highlight of the tour with an audience of 30,000 people. As a solo artist, he has performed 5 times at the National Auditorium in Mexico City.
In 1998 Timbiriche reunited for a 60-dates tour in 7 months, performing 20 times at the National Auditorium and setting a new record. Benny was the musical director and producer of the live album of the tour “El Concierto” (The Concert).
In 2007 Timbiriche reunited once again to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a tour, three albums and a documentary directed by Carlos Marcovich. The highly acclaimed tour broke its own previous record, this time with 23 shows at the National Auditorium in Mexico City and 80 shows throughout Mexico, United States and Central America. Once again, Benny was the musical director and creative co-producer of the show; he also produced two of the three albums and his production company was in charge of the creation of the tour DVD.
In 2008, Benny’s voice gave life to the little mouse Despereaux in the Spanish adaptation of the animated film "The Tale of Despereaux" from Universal Studios.
