Product Description

The SUPER Benriner Slicer is a professional piece of equipment that no chef should be without. Its sharp super high quality stainless steel blades provide a clean and sharp cut to any vegetable. This version of the Benriner slicer is significantly wider, allowing for slicing of larger produce. It comes equipped with 4 different blades giving you the ability to slice in many various ways. The standard flat blade cuts perfect slices which can be easily adjusted for thickness. The fine toothed blade will help you create elegant vegetable garnishes for professional looking meals. Great for carrots, radishes, or any other firm vegetable. The medium toothed blade is excellent for quick and easy uniform stir-fry pieces that will cook up in a flash. Suitable for almost any vegetable- try onions, peppers, radishes, beets, zucchini, etc. The coarse toothed blade can make chunky and crisp cuts of vegetable or fruits. Great for potatoes, onions, radishes, cucumbers, carrots, apples, peaches, etc. The slicer also comes equipped with a safety device which comes in very handy when working with small pieces of produce. Helps to make good cooks better!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Starter Mandolin August 4, 2009
Compared to some of the other plastic, lower cost mandolins the Super Benriner feels much sturdier than most and delivers in all the necessary areas. The blades are sharp and decent quality, the size is perfect for most general kitchen uses and the four blades give the average cook all that they will need. Along with some basic steps in care, such as washing and drying the unit and blades right after use, the Benriner should last it's price.

This unit does not have those "handy" legs like some of the others and I feel that makes it sturdier but it also means you don't have that convenience (I prefer sturdy over convenient). There aren't any "no skid" pads on the bottom edges so you need to create your own sturdy blocking (I run mine up against a large wooden cutting block which works fine but this is one improvement I would like to see on the unit). The slot for the 3 changeable blades is easy enough to figure out but one really needs to tighten the two "holder" screws tight or the blade will slide out while cutting (not a safe thing to happen on a mandolin). The method (two screws) for setting the cutting height is a bit cumbersome but I think this is another place where sturdiness wins over convenience in a lower-end device.

So, the only two things I'd like to see changed on this unit are the addition of some "no-skid" rubber edges and a more effective and easier way to secure the interchangeable blades.

Overall, a good lower-end, starter mandolin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what's up with the name in this listing January 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase
Whatever Amazon's calling it, this is in fact the "Super Benriner"--big brother to the regular Benriner. What's different? Well, it's beige instead of green, it has metal adjustment and blade holder knobs, and it's much, much wider. Cuts like a dream, but the hand guard is still something of a joke and a Kevlar glove would be a good idea regardless of how careful you think you might be.

My one complaint is that the white-ish plastic stains pretty easily. Carrots will leave a big orange smear on the surface.

5.0 out of 5 stars The middle path January 19, 2010
If you are willing to spend $100-$200 you can get a fine French mandolin that works well. If you try to save too much and buy a Taiwanese model for $10 you will get frustrated trying to use it. The Benrinner is the perfect middle path. It is plastic yes, but it is made in the same country that makes Honda. This thing really works. The blades are high quality and the plastic is tough and durable.
I buy these by the case from quickspice and sell them to friends.
One note. Alway, always, always where a glove. Mandolins are famous for slicing fingers. i use the blue rubber coated ones, again, you could spend more for one designed for cut protection but I find the blue rubber coated gloves to work just fine.
peace,
Jimmy

I should have bought the smaller size; this one is difficult to adjust the height because instead of one adjusting screw this one has two screws.
