Product Description

Bent Not Broken describes Lauren's turbulent childhood and adolescence as she struggles to deal with childhood sexual abuse, rape and her life as stripper and prostitute, before she turns her life around and returns to school and university, eventually graduating as a medical doctor. There is a shipwreck, a suicide attempt and a stowaway adventure. There is the beauty of New Zealand and in the story the FBI and the Coast Guard make guest appearances as do Kiss, a few transvestites, Dr. Hook, teen pregnancy, prostitution, God, education and the Dallas County jail.

Lauren’s story is an amazing inspirational insight into the resilience of the human spirit when life's challenges seem overwhelming. Bent Not Broken is an emotional roller coaster of a ride with a wonderfully inspiring peek into the psyche and heart of someone who not only survived against great odds but also dedicated her life to enriching the lives of countless others.

Lynne Beswick, Halton Women’s Aid "Brilliant and inspiring - a real account of how we can change our lives around and regain control and direction over our lives"

Georgina Spelvin, Actress and Author "A wonderful writer ... her skills as a story teller, and the locale which is foreign to me, have made it an astonishingly good read."

First published in New Zealand … ETI now offers this compelling story of survival and redemption enhanced and formatted for Kindle readers.

A glossary of New Zealand and British colloquialisms and internet link to continually updated photos have been added to the e-book edition.

Bent Not Broken takes us through Lauren's incredible life and many struggles. It is an inspiring story that sends a strong, positive message to anyone afraid they are stuck on a difficult path in life. Lauren's escapades are frequent and mind-boggling. It is a testament to the human spirit that a person can endure the experiences she has endured and still come out on top! This is the kind of book that keeps you up at night, turning pages and hoping she finds her way......

4.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing yet uplifting, February 6, 2009

This review is from: Bent Not Broken (Paperback)
It may be shorter to list the bad things that have not happened to Lauren Roche, but she has had an incredibly wild ride, from abused child to stripper, to prostitute, stowaway, rape victim, suicide attempter, the victim of partner abuse, a mother and latterly a doctor. Yet the tenacity she has demonstrated is quite inspiring. It is also well written and fast paced, not dwelling for too long on subjects, but running towards the next adventure.

Definitely worth a read - and when you have, also buy a copy of Life On The Line - the sequel, where you find out that being a doctor isn't just a happy ending by any means. It could not be published as part of this book as it spoke of a Court case which was in progress and could have prejudiced the case, but it is a good continuation from Bent Not Broken.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read and one that is not soon forgotten., December 10, 2011

This review is from: Bent Not Broken (Kindle Edition)
I first learned of Lauren's book and story in 2000 while visiting New Zealand. I was so intrigued by her story I purchased the sequel "Life On The Line" on my return visit in 2001. Her story is one of sexual abuse, drugs, misadventure, survival, mistakes made and repeated, redemption, and transformation. Her story seems far out ... so much like a American Soap Opera set in exotic and breathtakingly beautiful New Zealand that it is both reassuring and troubling to know that it is true.

The author is very much a work in progress

A brilliant read and one that is not soon forgotten.
