Product Description

Made in France from a single piece of the finest olive wood, this handcrafted spatula offers original beauty (no two are identical) and exceptional convenience in the kitchen. The gently curved spatula provides a long handle and a rectangular-shaped head that works well for flipping pancakes, slipping under food, and transporting food to a plate or serving platter. The use of wood not only brings the beauty of nature indoors, but it has also been found to be more hygienic than plastic. Furthermore, out of respect for the environment, the particular olive wood used by Berard comes from sustainably managed forests, so the spatula can be enjoyed for years to come and with peace of mind. The unit features a lovely satin finish, made up of a combination of mineral oil and beeswax, which protects the wood and offers added strength and resilience. Safe to use with all cookware, the spatula measures approximately 12-1/2 by 2-4/5 by 1/5 inches and should be hand washed only and dried thoroughly.

What a difference of having a Hand Carved Olive Wood Spatula in your hand mixed with the wonderful aromas of the food you are cooking. Makes you feel like a French Chef cooking tableside in a quaint out of the way Bistro. You won't want to go back to the plastic or metal spatulas you where using previously. These Olive Wood Spatulas just feel good, and they work exceptionally well also.

Olive wood naturally comes from Olive trees. Most of these trees are grown in the Mediterranean sea area. Olive wood has a distinct grain to it, and no two utensils will look alike. The first Olive wood utensils where hand carved in Bethlehem in the days of old, and in time this practice spread around the Mediterranean area. They used Olive Wood because it was plentiful in that region. It also was fairly easy to carve by hand, had a beautiful grain and did not deteriorate because of it's oil content.

This spatula is hand crafted from one peice of wood by the Berard Co of France. The Berard Co has been making Olive Wood cooking utensils for nearly one hundred and twenty years now. I guess they have the technique down fairly well by now. They have quite a few extremely nice hand crafted wood utensils, check them out.

There are quite a few different style olive wood spatulas. I prefer this one with the curve on it, it seems to work well for me. They work great on non stick cookware, it will not scratch the finish. You must wash it by hand and no dishwasher, it will take the natural oils out of it. Every once in a while I will condition it with " you guessed it " Olive oil. I have my spatula over two years now and use it frequently, it still looks like new.

A wonderful feel good item that works. Try it if you want to spoil yourself a little bit.

Every kitchen and every cook deserves a Berard Olive-wood curved spatula.

In my opinion this is a must have. The shape is just perfect for scraping and turning or flipping things in the pan. And as a bonus, is for don't happen to get right to the dishes afterwards, it cleans up like a dream when you do.

I love to buy Berard Olive-wood sets for wedding gifts for young couples.

I have been using olive wood utensils along with one oak utensil for several years. Olive wood is wonderfully gentle, safe material for cooking. The wood grain is beautiful. I appreciate these utensils so much that I enjoy caring for these pieces with mineral oil about once a month and a small amount of hand sanding when needed (less than once a year). Comparatively, the oak piece needs more frequent care and has other issues compared to the versatility of olive wood.

About 15 years ago, my mom gave me an olive wood spatula, and I loved it and used it all the time. Since then, I met the guy of my dreams (guy here, too... love is love... move along), he became a chef and still the wood spatula retained it's spot in our kitchen. Whether it's in a company's best interest to make a spatula that lasts 15 years is, I suppose, debatable, but mine finally cracked apart in the middle of the lemon shallot sauce for some halibut en croute. We gave it an honorable burial--like you do--and this beauty is the replacement. Just love it! Couldn't be happier with its smoothness and strength. The balance in your hand is great, and it's not made China, the home of cheap American corporate wickedness. The price couldn't be better, either. Highly recommended.

This spatula is much wider than the other two olive wood spatulas I bought from Amazon (Naturally Med-Olive Wood Spatula and Olive Wood Spatula 12-inch Eddington). 3" at its widest. If you want a spatula that is wide at the broad end, with a curved spoon-like end, this is the one. The woodgrain patterns and finish are very nice.

Wanted something to flip burgers in a frying pan. This is an excellently made spatula that does the job well. Worth the price to have something dependable in the kitchen.
