This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Lose a Friend (Paperback)
When Sister's pet goldfish dies, Papa attempts to hide the fact from Sister by replacing it with a different goldfish despite Mama's suggestion that the idea may not be a good one. When Sister discovers that the fish in the bowl is not her own, she must deal with Papa's lie as well as the death of her own fish. In the end, Sister is able to bury the "real" goldfish to reconcile the death of her pet. Because Sister seemingly finds her own way through the grieving process, her character is a model to other young children. However, it may be just as likely that an adult would help a child through the process. Papa's lie about the goldfish's death is glossed over. Young children, however, may not be bothered by these problems with the text and may feel comforted by Sister's ability to deal with the death of her beloved pet.

This book is a good way to begin talking to a child about death such as when a grandparent or other loved one is going to die.
