5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired my son!
My son and I have an established bed time ritual and that includes a bath, a book or two and a prayer.

Before reading this lovely book, my 3 year old son would say the standard, "Now I lay me down to sleep...." prayer. But seeing the Berenstain Bears prayer for specific things, it opened his mind to include EVERYTHING.:)

3.0 out of 5 stars Long & Drawn Out
Right in the middle of reading this book to my daughter (5) she asked what the book was about. The moral of the story was too brief and hard to understand. My daughter thought the book was about baseball. I like their older books which are more fun, less mundane and more to the point.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay, October 6, 2008

Compared to other Berenstain bears books, the new ones by Mike Berenstain have a lot of words and can get a little boring and mundane. They also don't start with the clever little rhyme like his parents did. They still teach the lesson but it's a little bit over kill and if you are reading these at bedtime (like myself) suddenly your reading time is quite a bit longer, so instead of 2 books you may only have time for 1.

This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) (Paperback)
This story about prayer is a positive and interesting look at the importance and meaning of prayer in everyday life. It deals with the common practice of praying as part of youth sports activities and gives a thoughtful take on this issue. It will be appreciated by parents and children alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty cute book!, August 7, 2009

The whole story revolves around Brother Bear not understanding why they say their prayers at bedtime. He sees his cousin praying right before he starts to pitch in the big baseball game so he asks him why. It doesn't really get into why you pray or how as much as it does talk about the "God bless mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc. It would have been more interesting for kids if Michael had discussed that more in depth and answered Brother's question. Other than that, it's a great bedtime story. REcommend!

Got this for my two boys, ages 3 and 1. They love books and this one is no exception. Got it in the hopes of making it easier for us to say our night prayers before bed. Although that still hasn't caught on smoothly yet- the book is still awesome!

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Mike, January 20, 2012
This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) (Paperback)
A horrible, horrible book! :( We love the Berenstein Bears series and have almost all of them. They are great and funny! However, since Stan died and Mike, their son started to write we can not possible stand the series. Sorry to say, but the guy is a very slow, boring, and over explains the smallest things. He also left out the sentences that our children love: "The Berenstein Bear Family lived .....deep down in bear country." etc. Instead of having small pictures and little window texts next to them, he uses big pictures and the text is on the bottom, making the plot less flowing. Now the Berenstein Bear series are in the religious shelfs-that is a pity- because many folks are going to miss a good story with morals. I gave 1 star because I could not give less...:( We still going to cherish our Stan and Jan BB collection, and never buy a book with Mike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good lesson about prayer, October 12, 2011
This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) (Paperback)
This book deals with the subject of prayer in a very thoughtful way since it emphasizes that not all prayer is answered in the way we may expect. The story focuses on the common practice of kids (and adults) praying in the course of sports events--this is something that kids are going to be exposed to a lot and it's a good way to explore the issue of prayer in their lives.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Very Small Part of the Story Deals with "Saying Their Prayers", May 10, 2011
This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) (Paperback)
This book is so LONG. I have no problem with reading long books to my daughter but 50% of this book has absolutely nothing to do with the plot. At one point they go on for two pages (And of course these pages are 15-20 sentences long) about Mama and Papa running the hot dog stand, which has nothing to do with the Baseball game that's going on, which really has nothing to do with "Saying their Prayers". I have been so tempted to take a black marker and just cross out all the parts of the book that do not add to the story, then maybe it would be more enjoyable to read.

I love the older Berenstain Bear books but the newer ones are just terrible.

2.0 out of 5 stars a bit long and off topic, August 7, 2009
By
Jen H (Summervile, SC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers (Berenstain Bears/Living Lights) (Paperback)
It would probably be nice for an older child, but it was very long and off topic for my 4 year old. There is a long section about the soccer game that doesn't have a whole lot of bearing on saying prayers. Overall I think there is more about playing soccer than saying prayers. With an older child you may be able to discuss and bring it back though.
