5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for moving toddlers
We are moving and I was worried that our 3yo wasn't understanding what was going on around him. My husband and I wanted to try and help him to come to terms with leaving the only room and house he's ever known.

This book is absolutly FANTASTIC! It explains that the house they are leaving was a good house and explains why they are choosing to move. It talks about...

3.0 out of 5 stars Moving Day
It was about a bear family loving where they live including their friends and home. But the soil for growing vegetables was hard and rocky so they decided to move well papa and mama bear. When they found a place to move it needed a little bit of work but they managed what it would look like and they got new friends and a new home and a new place to grow vegetables. It was...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for moving toddlers, October 20, 1999
We are moving and I was worried that our 3yo wasn't understanding what was going on around him. My husband and I wanted to try and help him to come to terms with leaving the only room and house he's ever known.

This book is absolutly FANTASTIC! It explains that the house they are leaving was a good house and explains why they are choosing to move. It talks about how they will take Brother Bears books and toys (he was worried he would have to leave them). It does a wonderful job of explaining that it's necessary to leave friends while not making it sad. They have managed to make *ME* feel better about leaving friends and our house.

Our son can't wait to move now. If he has a question, he asks and we tell him and try to relate it to the bears story to help him understand. I can't give this book enough stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh No! Not My Toys!!, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
My three year old son cried for hours after I told him the movers would be packing up his toys and books...but he would get them back at our new home. A friend lent me this book. The book broke things down into language little ones could understand. They identified with the characters and saw that all in all, it turned out o.k. As we read the book, we discussed it. My three year old learned all about moving day. How much fun we would have at our new home..and he even asked where we would be moving. I told him Chicago..and he has been telling everyone. This book took my three year old from tears to EXCITEMENT for moving day. If your planning a move..especailly a big one like we were....if you do nothing else for your child...buy them this book, to help them with their feelings and the transition.

In 1981 we moved cross coutry with our three year old son. This book helped "develop" the pictures of the process for him. Now I am in the "mentor" position for other young mothers facing long distance moves. This is my first gift choice for them and their three or four year olds to make the process understandable and FUN. Patricia Smith, RNS, MS

4.0 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day, October 17, 2001
A Kid's Review
This was one of the best children's books I have read, and I recommend it for children that are getting ready to move. This book was written by Stan and Jan Berenstain.
Moving day is about a family of bears, they are Papa bear, Mama bear, and brother bear. Before they moved to the valley, they lived in a cave. Mama had a vegetable garden, and Papa cut down trees and made furniture. Brother kept busy playing with his many friends, which were animals. Then Papa bear said that they they needed to move because the trees were getting farther and farther away and Mama bear agreed that they needed to move because the soil was getting too hard for her vegetable garden. Brother bear was very sad about moving because he would miss his friends. Mama bear said that he could write his old friends and make new friends when they moved into their new house. They moved into a treehouse that needed alot of work. As they looked at it and imagined how it would look after it was fixed up, the neighbors came over to say "hi". Now the bears had new friends and after they fixed up the treehouse it was just perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bear Family....Moving?, February 27, 2002
By
This book is set before the bear family has moved into the tree house. It tells about why they are mvoing and how sad brother is but how he does have even more fun when they get to their new house.

If you have read any of the story books in this series you know how great of books they are. I suggest this book for any kids who loves great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Moving Day!, November 29, 2011
I think there's a very good reason that this book series has spanned decades and maintained popularity. It gives children the chance to think on their own and make their own choices for behaviors that carry over into their adult lives. Many of these issues will be ones that will persist through their lives, just on different levels of course.

Growing up we did a lot of moving from apartment to apartment, and in college I was used to moving every year. I liked seeing some situations relate to what you can expect every time. These books are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, May 11, 2009
This book helped my 2 daughters realize what would be included in the move. It explained that your personal belongings move with you to the new house, but your bedroom stays behind. It was beneficial to my 2 1/2 year old in explaining what "moving" meant.

This book truly helped my 4 year old son understand how the whole moving thing was going to work. We moved from Ohio to NJ so the whole thing @ making new friends and missing the old ones was something he referred to a lot. The illustrations helped him visualize how the whole "cave" gets packed up and EVERYTHING (all toys etc) go to the new house.

I had a couple other moving books but this was by far the most helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book about moving, March 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have to admit that I have been a fan of the Berenstain Bears since childhood. I bought this book for my 21-month-old son to help him understand an upcoming move. The text is too advanced for his short attention span but he enjoys the pictures. My husband and I showed him the pictures and told the story in our own words. It's difficult to say if this book eased our son's transition from our old house to our new. However, our move is complete and our son still enjoys looking at this book.

I got this book to help prepare my 3yo for our upcoming relocation. We've had this for almost a month now and she has asked to read it over and over again each night. She's able to parallel the people and places in the book w/ her real life family, friends, and homes. It's helping her understand the process and what to expect, from leaving an empty house to making new friends in the new neighborhood. We love the illustrations and writing so much, we purchased 4 more Berenstain books on Amazon's 4-for-3 sale.
