5.0 out of 5 stars The Berets - Special Forces and the Brotherhood of War
This book is part of a series about Army warriors, and this one concentrates on the elite Special Forces known as the Green Berets. The central theme is the growth of the Green Berets, and their legend. It takes us into Vietnam.

2.0 out of 5 stars "General Hospital" in Army green
This is a weak series of books, as far as war novels go. They're more like an ongoing soap opera than gritty war drama (think "General Hospital" as a novel, only set between 1945-1970 and revolving around the Army instead of Port Charles.) The characters are given plenty of time to evolve, and some do (Lowell, in particular.) But it all seems too phony. A...

This book is part of a series about Army warriors, and this one concentrates on the elite Special Forces known as the Green Berets. The central theme is the growth of the Green Berets, and their legend. It takes us into Vietnam.

If you like a great series about the Army, the Brotherhood of War is the best, and the Berets reflects the marvelous insider knowledge that Mr. Griffin has of the inner workings of the Army. In this book, he describes much of the infighting that took place between Special Forces and the generals who felt they were too elitist to have around. JFK was a big supporter of the Berets. The Green Berets live on, and they have proven themselves time and time again.

You will love this book and every book in this series if you like a great book about the Army.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good one from Griffin, July 13, 1999
By A Customer
The Triumph and the Glory may be the big war novel hit of 99, but Griffin's Brotherhood of War is hard to beat, and The Berets is one of the best of the series. I thoroughly enjoyed the insights into military life and the rock solid theme that this fine book offers. Read the entire series, I did and rate it very highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brotherhood OF War The BeretsWW, March 3, 2009
W.E.B. Griffin writes an exciting type of novel that is easy to relate to
if one understands the military comradery that can develop between fellow
soldiers. There are some bonds that develop in this type of atmosphere that
can last a lifetime. I read all of his Brotherwood of War series and it is
easy to relate to the same characters as they increase in rank throughtout
their careers. I also liked the maverick character in Craig Lowell from his
early start as a PFC until he achieved his rank as a bird colonel. I intend
to read some of his other series because he writes the kind of story that
makes you want to continue reading and then look for the follow-up if one
is planned to be written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nam War action in the Green Berets., January 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Brotherhood of War Series Is beyond any doubt some of the best novels ever published about the Military. The characters are
carried from novel to novel and age accordingly. If you have never read a W.E.B.Griffin novel. Your missing some of the best told stories ever told.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Griffin Series, October 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've read this series several times over the last 20 years or so, and just started it again after a 5+ year layoff. Reading it again I've forgotten how good of a storyteller Griffin was before writing with his son in his last few books. While this one sets the stage for each of his other series (i.e., Corps, Vigilantes, Philadelphia police series) with a rich guy who always bucks the system to beat up the bad guy, with this one you have good character developmet and dialogue, and get a history of the Army from WWII through Vietnam - Korea, tank development, army aviation, Green Berets, you name it.

This one continues the Lowell saga with a little more development of Craig's cousin, as well as Lowell being offically granted membership as a Green beret.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - Typical WEB Griffin, April 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Typical WEB Griffin Book - A great read. I have been going back and ordering the entire series so I can read them in the order that they were published as the "story lines" will make more sense... but it is not necessary however.

Enjoy, I did...
