4.0 out of 5 stars Beringia August 11, 2012
Format:Hardcover
A scholarly reference, not for light reading or even for the reader looking to familiarize himself with this broad subject. This book is primarily a collection of research papers dealing, generally, with the geologic, climatic and biological aspects of a land mass that has been alternately exposed and drowned over the past 70,000,000 years. Papers deal with not only the passage of land animals over the 'bridge' but the relative isolation of marine life to the north and south of Beringia.

We learn that Beringia wasn't a narrow land bridge but a grassy, life-filled subcontinent measuring 3,500 x 1,000 miles connecting Asia and North America. During the past 2,000,000 years the Beringia subcontinent has been dry land more often than a watery strait. During this time, numerous plants and animals past to-and-fro over the 'bridge.' One of the animals was...man.
