Product Description

The Berkey Shower Filter works on a similar principle to a catalytic converter in an automobile. Inside the shower filter, free chlorine is converted into a harmless chloride. The scientific name for this chemical reaction taking place inside the Berkey shower filter is known as "Reduction-Oxidation," commonly referred to as Redox. Redox reactions can be chemically complex. Simply stated, during a Redox reaction electrons are transferred between molecules, creating new elements. For instance, when free chlorine comes in contact with the Berkey filtration media, it is changed into a benign, water-soluble chloride. This reaction changes free-chlorine to a larger chloride element, too large to evaporate or be absorbed by the skin.

This filter is great! No question about it! High water pressure & thoroughly cleaned. No more dry skin or hair. I was a bit concerned about the unmarked filter & shower head. I emailed the vender and they indeed admitted it is a sprite brand. Which means berkey simply uses sprite filters (common practice in any business). My point...? Sprite filters are cheaper :(

I have the berkey drinking water filter and wanted to try the shower filter. I am very happy with it. After my shower I could brush through my hair without any detangler and when it dried my hair was soft and not as corse like it usually is. My sister also has the shower filter and loves it. It helped with her hair and the kids'. When the kids take a shower after swimming it rinses all the chlorine out and she can brush throught their hair easy as of before she could not. She also said she shower doors are always clean and clear with no lime/ water spots. All together- its great!

Great piece! Quality constructed product.

Covers a wide range of filtration and eliminates mold and fungus!
The part where the silver band is around the center of the filter leaks slightly, but this may be due to installation. (Unfortunately I wasn't there when it was installed so I can't say for sure...lol)

It's a great feeling to know that I'm not breathing in Chlorine vapors anymore when I shower (nor absorbing the toxic chlorine through my skin), and my hair is super shiny and soft since I started using it.

It has a perfectly even flow of water and I find it very appealing to not have to frequently change or clean/sanitize my shower curtain :)

Tall folk: Keep in mind this brings the traditional shower head down a couple of inches.

Not entirely sure this is an official Berkey product. It does not say Berkey anywhere on the shower filter, brochure / manual, or the box that it shipped in.

Would love if a Berkey rep could confirm / deny this is an official product. There is no branding anywhere, very confusing.

Purchased the Berkey filter along with the TDS EZ Water Filter.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C0A7ZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Am testing for hard water and have found that the "filtered" shower has the same ppm (265) as the kitchen tap water.

Had expected the ppm to be at least below 100.

I know the tester works fine because it was used to test the Glacier filtered water machine and the ppm was 005, meaning pure water.

Shower head is okay so I give it 1 star.

This product does not live up to its claim therefore I have no choice but to return and search for another brand.

We have had this shower filter for about a month. Installation was quick and easy. We haven't had any issues with leaking at all, and the different settings are nice. The water pressure is still great. It is so nice to be able to shower without the bathroom smelling like toxic fumes now!

I had the filter and shower head installed yesterday and it has been dripping non stop for 18 hours. I'm ready to rip it out of the wall. At this point I'm considering buying a shower hose so I don't hear water dripping.

Update: I had a plumber come back out and look at the filter and it was the faucet cartridge that needed to be replaced. The dripping stopped and the filter is working fine.

This has been a lifesaver. I have well water, and am constantly seeing what looks like fine white sand in the hot tub or a chalky residue on glass ware. I replaced the pump filter ($$$), but didn't seem to help. I am terrified to find out how much it's going to cost to have a plumber really look and fix the situation so I buy bottled water to cook and hydrate with. Long story short, I started notice clumps of hair missing from my head. As if in the middle of the night someone came in and cut random locks of my hair off with scissors. I decided to lay off the styling tools and products for a few months but it didn't help. Then it dawned on me that it could be the water drying out my hair. Most shower filters I research mentioned chlorine, but I don't have a chlorine issue. Thankfully one reviewer mentioned she had well water and used this to trap sediment. After reading that review, I quickly purchased this filter. It works great, no loss in water pressure and more importantly, my hair feels and looks so much healthier!!!
