A friend used a couple of them on one of our night fishing trips, I had the 2" glowsticks on the tip of my fishing rod(Catfish).
Decided to get me a couple. I now have 2 10' spinning rods, and 3 8' spinning rods. The long ones are for shore fishing, the 8 footers for boat fishing, drifting or still. Great poles. Don't need to use the light up feature, specially on a dark(no moon) night. After a day in the sun, the REALLY GLOW! Wish I'd have seen them sooner.

glow stick,

The glow stick lights up well, but needs to light the tip end of the rod or the upper 1/4 of the rod. Ya know that's where the bite is, not at the butt of the rod. They are better the way they are now, than no light at all, but it would be 100 percent better if the tip was lit.
