5.0 out of 5 stars Great line!
I got turned onto this line 5-6 years ago by one of my fly fishing buddies. He had been using the 4 lb. line as tippet material. I was using monofilament and was experiencing numerous snap-offs and and know failures to large trout. I bought my first spool of the Vanish line and witnessed my catch rates double, if not triple. Snap-offs and knot failures became nearly...

2.0 out of 5 stars Going back to mono
I bought some 10-lb test Berkley Vanish a few weeks ago, and re-spooled both my spinning reels with it. I bought it mostly because I liked what I had read about fluorocarbon being less visible to fish underwater. I fish in a clearwater lake, and the fish can be pretty discriminatory when it comes to deciding what to eat, so I didn't want them seeing my line. Anyway, I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great line!, November 27, 2011

I got turned onto this line 5-6 years ago by one of my fly fishing buddies. He had been using the 4 lb. line as tippet material. I was using monofilament and was experiencing numerous snap-offs and and know failures to large trout. I bought my first spool of the Vanish line and witnessed my catch rates double, if not triple. Snap-offs and knot failures became nearly non-existent, and the number of takes I received increased dramatically due to this line's underwater invisibility. It is more durable and lasts longer than any mono I've previously used. I've since taken to spooling all of my ice fishing rods with 4 lb. and 6 lb. Vanish. Fish can drag this line all over the holes edges without damaging it. Knot strength is ridiculous. I haven't had any problems with excessive memory and coiling, possibly because I'm using the lighter test. It costs more than average mono but the benefits are worth it, IMO. I'll never use mono again!

I love this stuff. I use it for trout fishing and it works great. I use it for the main line and my leader. I have caught over 100 rainbows, browns and brookies (mostly rainbows) this year on this stuff and it has not failed me once! Buy it, You won't regret it. The knot that has the most strength with this particular line is the trilene knot. It shows you how to tie it in the package.

Anyway, I caught some fish, so I'm not giving the line a 1-star rating, but, in the end, Berkley Vanish can only muster 2-stars.

Cons: the stuff just gets twisted, tangled, and coiled worse than anything I have seen. It was a real problem when I was fishing. Loops of line would force themselves off my reel and tangle around the handle, etc. I had to cut off the line and strip yards and yards of it several times, only to have to re-tie so I could keep fishing.

A friend of mine told me that the Trilene Fluoro is better stuff, and he urged me to go with that, but odds are I'm going back to Stren Lo-Vis Green monofilament.
