5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, accurate... and not just for fish!
Here's a secret for the uninformed: This is a very popular scale with people who never weigh a single fish. This is perhaps the best inexpensive package scale you can get, and if you're a regular eBay seller, it's one of the best tools you cna buy for making accurate weighings for estimating shipping charges. With this scale and a plastic bag, you can weigh any package,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stock up on CR2032 batteries...
Yes, it's inexpensive and accurate, but the batteries don't last long.
Even during periods of non-use, the batteries seem to drain.
I blame the designer for using CR2032 batteries (typically $3-$10 each), vs., for example, AA batteries, which cost about 50 cents in small quantities. AA batteries typically have 10 times the life of CR2032s. (CR2032s usually...

I blame the designer for using CR2032 batteries (typically $3-$10 each), vs., for example, AA batteries, which cost about 50 cents in small quantities. AA batteries typically have 10 times the life of CR2032s. (CR2032s usually are rated around 220 mAh, while alkaline AAs are often over 2500 mAh.)

So it's a nice scale, but don't leave it in your tackle box for a few months and expect it to work. Keep some extra CR2032s handy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent tool for international traveller, July 4, 2008
This review is from: Berkley 50 lb. Digital Fish Scale (Sports)
I bought this scale to weight my suitcases before I travel. I always travel with maximum weight allowed, this lets me pack my suitcases to the maximum weight allowed in peace and quite at home. Prior to this I would use a personal scale, which was not very accurate, and often I would have to repack my suitcase at the airport, which was rather inconvenient. This is little marvel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for fish or measuring thrust and wt of RC aircraft, February 20, 2008

Inexpensive scale for measuring wt of fish and RC airplanes. Hook it to the tail of an aircraft and measure the thrust of different prop, motor, and battery combinations. If the thrust to weight ratio is too low you can determine that the plane will not fly and save your self a crash. Measures to the nearest oz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch scale for travelers and backpackers, September 14, 2009

I've been backpacking and world traveling for many-many years and have a whole set of "fish scales" for weighing my items that weigh from a few ounces to 20 pounds. When I needed a scale with a 50-pound range for complete backpacks and airline luggage I opted for the Berkley 50 lb scale. It works great, with 1 oz resolution, and is pretty accurate. When I first bought my unit, my wife took it to work and used her professional calibration weights to check its accuracy. Mine was dead-on at 5 pounds, high by 1 oz at 15 pounds, and high by 2 oz at 40 pounds. Yours will likely be different, but I consider that very good for a $20 scale and more than adequate for my needs. Also, the handle is big and comfortable enough to easily lift 50 pounds and the hook works fine for lifting things. Used it also (very carefully) to weigh my nephew's new born. Probably, also works for fish.

I am a fisherman, but I bought this scale to use mostly for weighing packages. I'm an avid eBayer and this scale works great. It is very accurate and repeatable. It serves my purposes perfectly and I've been using it for about 5 months now. For the price, you just can't beat it. Similar range shipping scales cost at least 3 or 4 times as much.

I'm not a fisherman, but bought this to accurately weigh items I sell on ebay so I can print online postage at home. Works perfectly.

I bought one of these because I couldn't bring myself to fork out the $50+ for a brand-name bike scale (like Park Tools.) The day I got it, I weighed every bike in the garage and even some individual parts (like wheels.)

The product works excellent. I hung it from a ceiling hook with a rope, and it seems to give consistent, accurate readings (when compared to other brands of digital scales.

Why bother with the more expensive bike brand scales when you can get this one that works just as well?

A nice little weighing device for fishing or general postage item weights. I use it for fishing and it provides a quick and accurate measure of fish weight. It uses two CR2032 batteries and has a battery saving mode which switches the device off after two minutes of non-use. Handy as these batteries can be expensive if you rip through them often. The scale can read in both pounds and kilograms which is great as I am in Australia and prefer metric scale, as used over here. Operation is simple with two buttons so you are up and running in seconds. Great little scale (for whatever purpose) and appears to be quite accurate too.

I've used this scale for fishing and for picking berries. Very handy tool to own at a low price. I can now tell my friends exactly how big my fish are without over estimating and I can tell how many pounds of berries I've picked before bringing it to the checkout.
