Editorial Reviews

From the back cover

On June 24, 1948, the Soviet Union imposed a blockade on the western sectors of Berlin. Overnight, two and a half million Berliners were cut off for food and fuel, and surrounded by a sea of 300,000 Soviet Troops. Berlin became the epicenter of the confrontations between East and West. Communism and democracy were on a collision course. Just three years after the end of World War II, old friends became enemies and old enemies became friends. At stake, the future of Berlin, of Germany of all of Europe. The Berlin Airlift commemorates the 20th century's most dramatic humanitarian rescue -- the story of the American and British pilots who flew 277,000 trips to deliver more than two million tons of food and supplies to keep the blockaded city's inhabitants alive. It is also the story of how the courageous people of Berlin regained their freedom and rose up to fight the spread of Communism. Using archival film, stills and home movies, as well as stories told by those who where there and the perspectives of historians and other experts, The Berlin Airlift brings to life extraordinary events that may consider to be the first major battle of the Cold War.

If you're a history buff or just interested in WWII, you'll find this informative and entertaining. I gave one to my Dad who actually flew in the Berlin Airlift. He loved it!
