(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Berlioz: Les nuits d'été; Chausson: Poème de l'amour et de la mer; Dukas: La péri (Audio CD)
Elsa Maurus has a powereful mezzo voice and I was really blown away by her performance in Chausson's Poeme, a setting of two poems for orchestra about love which I heard for the first time . Naxos does include the poetry for this and Nuit's by Berlioz with translation. The orchestra is great on the poem and :La peri, a ballet by Paul Dukas but hit and miss in the Nuit's d' ete which even though Maurus is as expressive as Janet Baker, the orchestra sometime fail. I would not make it my only nuits but the beauty of chausson make this disc worth having. Please excuse typos I have a neurologic disease.
