Berltiz Advanced Italian is truly a great value at just $25. I really enjoyed the dialogues and the text was fantastic. The text introduces advanced grammar topics and expands vocabulary. I listened to all the dialogues, then learned all the vocab, then read through the grammar sections and finally returned to listen once again to the dialogues. I found this method to expand my knowledge of Italian. On the other side, I disliked the 2nd and 3rd CDs entirely. On these audio only lessons you spend a lot of time repeating spoken Italian or answering questions. The problem here is that the answer you give might be right but might not be what is recorded as the answer. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this program, for Advanced Learners Only!

The speakers and the lessons on this are great. But they repeat entire lessons, obviously a cheap way to fill the CD. Anyone that has a CD player can replay any cut, so the "listen again to see if you made a mistake" is just fill.

Too bad. I really like the lessons; particularly the ones I can use in my car.

It's right up there with Fluenz & Pimslure. It's a really good course & a very helpful customer service support. You can download to your iPod/ mp3 & take it with you to work, running or whatever. The price is very appealing also.

This isn't an advanced course by any stretch. You get some not very interesting dialogues (ordering in a restaurant, going to the doctor), which are spoken very slowly, and then the same dialogues repeated even more slowly. There are also grammar lessons in the book that aren't in-depth enough to teach the concepts (pronouns, commands, etc.) to someone just being introduced to them, but aren't challenging enough for an advanced student.

The dialogues are probably useful to intermediate students wanting some extra practice listening, and the course as a whole might be good for someone who spoke Italian well years ago and is trying to relearn it. For everyone else, this is mediocre at best. Living Language does advanced Italian much better.
