I'm trying to learn Korean. I have to admit that I was initially frustrated in using the Korean-English section...I wasn't able to look up (find) any of the words of interest. I've been using the Indiana University web site to learn hangul and to acquire some vocabulary. The site is pictorial along with hangul and audio (but no English). In some cases, I couldn't be sure what the picture represented, so looking up the word seemed appropriate. I thought that I could simply use a romanized hangul chart to find the entry in the dictionary. Life is never that simple. But after I got more familiar with the way the dictionary romanizes Korean words,I began to have more success (as well as more satisfaction). The dictionary is attractively put together with a two-color scheme. It also has sections providing guides to pronunciation, grammar,and useful phrases.

One phrase describes it all... an indispensable resource for learning Korean. With its affordable price, two colored layout, and readable fonts in addition to the large number of entries, this dictionary is a must-have for any enthusiastic Korean language learner. Even the romanization of words that some readers find to be a problem helps in the pronunciation of Korean words.

It's very easy and convenient to use, alas that some words cannot be found, but for the whole this is a good dictionary.

This reference has served well for an American student who is teaching English in Korea to mid thru high school students.

This book is a great find for me. I am trying to learn Korean so I can speak and understand the Korean language with my mother. This dictionary is a great help to me when I am trying to impress my mom by attempting to speak her native language. It is easy to use and look up the translations. Most of the translations given that I use are perfect for everyday usage and context. There is no ambiguity between me and my mother.

I wish I paid more attention to the layout of this dictionary as described on the product page and also in the review before purchasing. You might think that having the Korean words organized based on romanization would make the dictionary easier to use, but the Hangul script is fairly easy to pick up with a little study and once you do so, having to mentally transcribe a word phonetically from Hangul back to whatever form of romanization this dictionary uses in order to look up the English translation starts to get tedious. I was hoping to use the dictionary as an alternative to plugging in Hangul into a search engine and trying to sift through the cryptic and inaccurate translations available, but the extra transcription step required negates any potential convenience or speed advantage and the dictionary just ends up sitting on the bookshelf.

To be fair, the vinyl cover is a nice touch in the interest of durability, and the Hangul font used is pretty legible (I have another text that uses a stylized "ieung" that makes it difficult to tell certain syllables apart, for example), but issue cited above is a dealbreaker for me for overall usability.

My mom became a Korean drama addict and wanted a dictionary to help her understand her dramas.
I bought this book for her, only to discover that we were both extremely disappointed with it. The words that we do know and understand from Kdramas were nowhere to be found in this book.

This is the best dictionary ever. I will be traveling to Korea next month and feel that this will well prepare me to get better aquainted not only with the language but the culture as well.
