Family of four used this frequently in July 1999, 20 day trip to Norway. Only once did it not contain the word we were searching for. Even if word desired is not listed, most likely a coorelated word will be that enables one to figure out what the unlisted word means.

For travellers not for readers,

This book was designed principally for Norwegians learning English, not the other way around. It makes a fine travel dictionary to carry with you in Norway. But if you are hoping to read a Norwegian text, don't count on this book.

believe me, this one works,

I travelled to Norway in the summer of 2000. Because I am from Copenhagen, Denmark, originally, I knew that anybody there who knew Norwegian would also be able to understand Danish. This is however an awkward situation for both speakers of the languages due to several pronunciation changes, and it can be said jokingly that Norwegians sometimes can't understand Danes. If you are a speaker of Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish, the book probably won't cause much trouble. Even English speakers are surprised on occasion to learn that almost everybody who speaks one of those three languages natively also knows English. But, if you are determined to learn the language, this dictionary will serve as a great source of vocabulary. It would be best for travel, though; students who seek the grammatical aspects of the language should try another dictionary. The words listed are commonly heard, and this book boosts Norwegian vocabulary greatly. There are also sections on food, conversion tables, and short grammar tables, although the latter are not very well explained. For the price, this is a very good selection to choose.

A Great Help,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Berlitz Norwegian/English Dictionary (Paperback)
I am Norwegian and this year I went there to see the family and all. I brought along this book, and it helped me a whole lot. It even had a nice blank place at the back where you could write the words you learned along the way. It helped me a whole lot!

lost for words,

I visited some friends of mine in Norway about a year ago and got this book before i went . It really was not any help to me though . Most of the words that are in it are out dated and not used in Norway today . I also tried to use this dictionary to translate letters that my friends had sent and it is more confuseing than helpful . Might be ok for someone that speaks Norwegian , but for an English speaker i find to be no real help .

Never could find the right word,

This review is from: Berlitz Norwegian/English Dictionary (Paperback)
I took this dictionary on a trip to Norway. It seemed as if every word that we tried to look up was not in the dictionary. From ingredients to road signs we were clueless. We had a lovely trip, but the dictionary was not a help; it's just doesn't have enough words.

I visited some friends in Norway a year ago and am planning on returning for a longer stay soon . I got this book before my first visit and it really was not any help . It has few words that i need and most of the words that it does have are out dated and are rarely used in Norway today . Also when i try to translate any letters from my Norwegian friends i find that this dictionary confuses me more than helps . Might be good for someone who knows Norwegian and needs English words , but not very good for english to norsk .

This is a very small (pocket-sized) two-way dictionary. It is NOT a major scholarly dictionary; it is a tourist's "quikie" look-up. It is clearly organized and easy to use. As long as you recognize its limitations, it can be VERY effective as a quick reference book.

Was not clearly labeled as pocket dictionary. It is very condensed, with just the bare translation into the other language.
