From Library Journal
Editor Weiss gathers 531 letters Shaw wrote to his German translator and friend between 1902 and 1950, the year of Shaw's death. With characteristic wit and intellectual vigor, Shaw discusses the status of his work in Central Europe; the political, social, and cultural events of the century; and his opinions on a wide range of topical issues. Weiss annotates the letters and arranges them in six chronological sections, introducing each with a helpful discussion giving the biographical, historical, and literary backgrounds. Since few of these letters have appeared elsewhere (or are likely to in the future), this is an important addition for academic subject collections.
